Level 1

Literacy

Level 1 students have started learning about procedures in Writing. Last week, we read 'Wombat Stew' and then got to make our own wombat stew! We went outside and collected ingredients for our wombat stew, tThen students came back inside and listed their ingredients, using a variety of adjectives to describe them. Students then wrote a recount about making wombat stew, using the 5Ws to help them add detail to their writing. This week, we are learning about the features of procedures and will be using them to write a variety of different procedures for the remainder of the term.

Numeracy

Level 1 students have been learning about place value. We have been playing many fun Maths games to reinforce our understanding of numbers and their value. Students have been expanding numbers into ones, tens, hundreds and even thousands! They have also been building numbers using base ten blocks to support their learning. Last week, we made animals out of base ten blocks for a 'Place Value Zoo'. Students enjoyed learning about place value through this fun Maths task! We have continued to talk about number patterns and have been practising our skip counting of twos, fives and tens.

Inquiry

This term, Level 1 has been learning about the differences and similarities between the past and present. Last week, all of Level 1 got to play a variety of old time games outside in the sunshine! This helped us reinforce our understanding of some of the differences and similarities between games that were played in the past, compared to the present. Level 1 is looking forward to going to Como House and exploring our 'Classroom Museum Expo' in the next few weeks to further their learning of the changes in history.
