Sustainability
We’ve had a great start to another term of sustainability learning, where our students are diving deep into important environmental topics and exploring creative ways to make a positive impact on our planet.
Here’s a glimpse into what each year level is focusing on this term:
Foundation students are beginning an exciting investigation into weather and the water cycle! They’ll be learning about different weather patterns and the science behind clouds. Keep an eye out for some fun experiments and cloud-inspired projects in the coming weeks!
Level 1 students are diving into the wonders of marine life. They are investigating “Life Below Water,” focusing on the incredible adaptations of marine and aquatic organisms. They will engage in exciting experiments and design projects to learn about the creatures and ecosystems beneath the waves!
Level 2 students are exploring the delicate balance of ecosystems. They are investigating biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) factors that make up an ecosystem. It’s all about understanding how every part of the environment plays a role in keeping nature healthy.
Level 3 students are rolling up their sleeves and getting ready to plant in the kitchen garden! Thanks to the amazing families who helped during the weekend working bee, the garden is now prepped for the next season’s crops. The students have already started propagating seeds in greenhouses, and they’re excited to look after them and plant them by the end of Term 1!
Level 4 students are taking a scientific approach to the Greenhouse Effect. They’ll be conducting experiments, collecting data, and analysing how greenhouse gases impact our planet. Throughout the term, they’ll be reporting their findings and learning more about how we can reduce our carbon footprint.
Level 5 students are becoming natural disaster experts! They are researching the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere and exploring how these layers of the Earth interact during natural disasters. They’ll be investigating ways we can better understand and respond to these powerful events.
Level 6 students are focusing on Responsible Consumption and Production. They are exploring how we can apply these concepts to their own designs and thinking about how sustainability can be incorporated into everyday life. They’ll be working on innovative projects to promote mindful consumption and responsible production.
Finally, Garden Club is back! Every Thursday, students are invited to join for the second half of lunch to help prepare the garden for the new season’s crops. We encourage families to join us and lend a hand as we finish getting the garden ready for planting.
It’s going to be a wonderful term filled with exciting discoveries, hands-on learning, and positive environmental action. We can’t wait to see what our students achieve as they continue to grow and learn about sustainability!
Best,
Mrs. Whitfield
