Level 6

We're a great mix in Level 6!

Reading

Students have continued to explore our class novel this term, Tom Appleby 'Convict Boy' with a focus on the colonisation of Australia. Students used a thinking routine to compare and contrast the influence colonisation had on Australia from both the First Nations people and the British Settlers.

Writing

Over the past two weeks, students have been developing their narrative writing skills using a picture prompt. They have explored both internal and external character traits, examining how these elements enhance reader engagement. Throughout our writing sessions, students have followed the writing process to refine their work, focusing on punctuation, spelling, and incorporating more descriptive language to help readers visualise the story.

Numeracy

During our maths sessions, students have been exploring decimals through a range of activities. They have focused on reading decimals, understanding place value, ordering and rounding decimals, and applying their knowledge to real-life contexts, such as using money.

Gala Day

On Tuesday 4th March, students in years 5 and 6 were a part of our first of 2 interschool Gala Days this term. Students participated in their chosen sport playing at various venues. The heat didn’t stop their determination and persistence to keep achieving their best. We look forward to the results soon and for the students to keep up their enthusiasm and enjoyment for day 2 next Tuesday.

Cyber Safety

As part of the Think You Know Cyber Safety program, the Year 5 and 6 students participated in a cyber safety incursion. The session focused on staying safe online, particularly while playing games with unknown players and recognising the risks of communicating with strangers.
