Level 5

Dear Level 5 Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we progress through this term, we are excited to share updates on our students’ learning, upcoming events, and some wonderful celebrations within our school community. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education.
Celebrations from the week
We are thrilled to share that Level 5 students have been actively learning about Federation. As part of this, we staged a 'Mini Federation' where each class represented a specific state. They researched their state, created flags, elected a governor, and discussed three important rules to include in the Level 5 constitution. This hands-on experience has fostered collaboration and creativity among our students!
Literacy
In Reading, we have been learning about key figures in the Federation of Australia. Students have been working collaboratively to research their assigned person and understand their impact on Federation, to share this learning with their class in a presentation.
In Writing, we have introduced persuasive writing, focusing on building complex sentences, using 'levelled up' punctuation, and crafting engaging introductory sentences. Students are using the demonstration NAPLAN site to familiarise themselves with how the platform works and to practice writing to a time constraint.
Numeracy
In Mathematics, we are exploring rounding, estimation, and vertical addition with decimals to enhance students' understanding of place value. In addition to this, the students have been working through practice NAPLAN Maths questions to help build their confidence and give them strategies on how to answer questions and what to do if they are stuck.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry topic is 'Identity' as we look at the Federation of Australia, the roles of key figures and the way immigration has shaped our lives.
In our Respectful Relationships program, we are focusing on emotional literacy, with our Friendology lessons aimed at identifying personal strengths and overcoming negative thoughts.
Homework
Students are required to:
- Read every night and document it in their journals
- Complete a spelling activity
- Work on a mental maths sheet
Please note that in Week 7, we will not assign homework due to the short week and NAPLAN testing.
NAPLAN
In Week 7, students will begin NAPLAN testing. We are diligently preparing by practicing the content and familiarising students with the testing platform. Please ensure your child has the NAPLAN app downloaded on their device by Week 7.
