Year 12 Retreat

On  the first week of term, our  year 12 students participated in our first 'Year 12 Retreat'

Day 1 was spent with TriPod Education and had a focus on leadership and how students can use their own skills to become visible leaders within our community and help shape the newly formed vertical homerooms. Our key takeaway was that everyone has a voice, and everyone can be a leader.

Day 2 focused on building momentum and culture within the school, with our students making 2025 leadership pledges as well as beginning to explore how to build positive habits to ensure a successful year 12.

Throughout the retreat students played team building games and shared their thoughts and aspirations for the coming year.

A big thanks goes out to Altona Sports Club for having us for the two days and providing a wonderful space and catering.

Project4Hope

Our Year 11s were involved with a new program 'Project4Hope'. Designed for students to kick start their year with goal setting and having a vision for their future.

The day consisted of:

Workshop 1:Pursuit of purposeWorkshop 2: Illuminate your path

Workshop 3: Take off and execute

In the coming weeks we will continue to review and work on what we started, to ensure the best start and journey to the students' final goal.

The feedback from our students was overwhelmingly positive with over 95% of students telling us the program was so valuable they believe that this program should be run every year.

Wyndham Tech Visits

This term, year 9 students from Business and Data Analytics are attending Wyndham Teach each Wednesday to learn how to run an Esports Tournament. This week, they played a range of simple games to see how any game can be run as an Esports Competition. They also established their gamer profile to learn more about why people play games.

Next week they will build a brand for marketing purposes.

Entrepreneurship at Wyndham Tech. Our students attended their second session last Wednesday. They worked on building Gamer Tags using AI and learned about the styles of Esports tournaments that can be run. In the following weeks they will get ready to set up an Esports tournament.

Excellence Awards

It was fitting to commence the year by handing out our 7-9 excellence awards from 2024.

In presenting these awards we spoke about the value of striving for excellence and how everyone is capable of excellence. Excellence is always a culmination of a number of factors, and is not just in the grasp of those we consider naturally gifted. Excellence involves hard work, dedication and grit. We look forward to supporting students to starting the year well and striving for excellence.

Year 7 Science

Year 7 Science has commenced with all students learning basic science skills including laboratory safety, scientific drawing and fair tests. Without a doubt though, the most talked about skill is the lighting of the bunsen burner and the licence that follows.
