Supporting Wellbeing at Holy Cross

At Holy Cross, we know that children learn best when they feel safe, comfortable, and supported. That’s why student wellbeing is a key focus in every classroom. We use a variety of approaches to help children understand and express their emotions, build friendships, and develop the confidence they need to thrive at school.

Each morning, students take part in emotional check-ins, giving them the opportunity to share how they’re feeling and start the day with a sense of connection. We also explore different emotions throughout the year, helping children develop the language to express themselves and navigate friendships positively.

Wellbeing doesn’t stop at the school gate, it can be nurtured at home too! Above, you’ll find some suggested activities from the Respectful Relationships program that we use at Holy Cross. These activities focus on six key elements of wellbeing, including positive thinking, gratitude, and breathing exercises to promote calm. They are based on the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships teaching and learning materials, which support children in developing emotional and social skills that last a lifetime.

We encourage you to explore these activities with your child and look forward to working together to support their wellbeing.

Coming Up!

Harmony Week is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds to promote inclusivity, respect, and a sense of belonging. It is a time to acknowledge and appreciate the rich cultures that make up our community, fostering unity and understanding.

I CAN Imagination Club – Building Connections & Creativity!

Rachael and Bec were back again this week for the I CAN Network Program. This wonderful initiative supports a small group of our students in developing confidence, teamwork, and a sense of belonging.

This week's session they continued a focus on teamwork, getting a clear idea of what positive teamwork feels and looks like, as well as a clear understanding of what Imagination Club looks like and how it will run. This week also saw the start of Imagination Talks! They began by sharing some good news, playing another get-to-know-you game, and recapping group agreements, before getting into a team activity; the Paper Plane Challenge! This activity saw them working in teams to create paper planes, come up with a team name, and then giving them a test flight at the end. We had some very cool creations which resulted in various flight styles including, long distance, short distance, back flips, nose dives, and u-turns!
