Catholic Identity

A very warm welcome to our families of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. A special welcome to our families who are beginning their journey at St Joseph’s for the first time. I am excited to work in partnership with you to embark on another year of continual growth in faith and improvement in learning. On Friday January 31, staff gathered together to celebrate Mass with the Parish for the beginning of the school year. Fr Patrick concluded by blessing all staff and sharing some encouraging words. It was beautiful to begin our year, sharing in the Eucharist and we thank Fr Patrick for his time.

Jubilee Year of Hope

Pope Francis has proclaimed that 2025 will be a Holy Year of Jubilee, a special year of grace and conversion, involving prayer, pilgrimage and sacramental repentance. The first Jubilee Year was declared on 22 February in the year 1300 by Boniface VIII. He stated that Romans who visit the basilicas of St. Peter and St. Paul 30 times within the year would be granted a plenary indulgence, while pilgrims arriving from outside Rome would only need 15 visits.

The goal of a Jubilee year is to inspire and encourage holiness of life among the faithful and therefore to strengthen the Church’s witness to God’s loving mercy in and for the world. The spiritual theme for the 2025 Holy Year of Jubilee is ‘Pilgrims of Hope’.

We, as a vibrant Catholic school community, will be acknowledging the Year of Hope in our classrooms, assemblies, Masses and liturgies throughout the year. I encourage all families to visit our very own “Door of Hope” at St Francis Xavier Cathedral, Wollongong. I was very blessed to attend the official opening of the door during the break and was filled with great hope, by the amount of families who also attended. Take some time over the next few weeks to pray the following Year of Hope prayer together with your families.
