Year 12 Geographers tackle Toohey Forest’s changing landscapes
Last Friday, Mr. Dodd and the Year 12 Geography class visited the Toohey Forest Environmental Education Centre as part of their IA2 assessment task. The excursion provided students with an engaging and hands-on experience allowing them to explore a part of Toohey Forest that is experiencing the impact of invasive weeds on our native ecosystems.
Guided by Theresa, a long-standing teacher at TFEEC, students navigated the natural landscapes of Toohey Forest and participated in various activities, that included plant identification, measuring air and soil temperature, and assessing dominant plant and weed species within a 50-square-metre quadrant.
In the afternoon, students returned to the classroom, where Theresa provided guidance on analysing and interpreting their collected data. This session helped students refine their findings for their IA2 assessment by proposing potential land management strategies for Toohey Forest based on their identified issues.
We extend our gratitude to the Toohey Forest Environmental Education Centre and to Theresa for her invaluable support for our students during and after the excursion.
