Student Leadership Update

Our student leaders have been working brilliantly, planning and delivering House Events, fundraisers, and the upcoming House Week. Their dedication and enthusiasm continue to make a positive impact across the school.

Recent events

A special highlight this term was the Valentine’s Day fundraiser, organised by the Cowan House Captains in support of the One Girl Foundation. With a fantastic stall selling flowers and chocolate gift bags (plus some free face painting!), the event was a huge success. While final figures are still being confirmed, approximately $400 was raised to support the education and empowerment of girls. Well done to the Cowan House Captains and everyone who contributed!

Year 11 – Leadership Capacity Building with Peer Power

In Week 3, a group of invited Year 11 students participated in a leadership development session facilitated by Peer Power. These students were identified by their teachers as individuals who naturally demonstrate leadership qualities in various ways. Some of them had also attended the Capacity Building Leadership Day in Year 10 after displaying strong leadership attributes at the Year 10 Camp at Emu Gully—whether as encouragers, great communicators, or motivators who inspire others to push through challenges.

Throughout the day, students engaged in activities designed to challenge their thinking, refine teamwork skills, and enhance their understanding of leadership. They worked together to overcome obstacles, strategise solutions, and reflect on their own leadership strengths and how they can contribute positively to their school and the wider community.

The session provided opportunities for both group discussions and individual reflection, helping students develop confidence in their leadership abilities. It was inspiring to see them embrace challenges, support one another, and gain a deeper appreciation of what it means to lead.

We are grateful to continue working with Peer Power to foster the next generation of leaders at The Gap State High School and look forward to seeing these students grow in their leadership journeys.
