From the Principal

Welcome to a New Year at Northcote High School!
We have had a fantastic start to the school year, with students already settling into their new year levels and reconnecting with friends, teachers, and the broader school community. A huge thank you to our Sub-schools and Year Level Captains for their thoughtful planning of welcome assemblies, ensuring every student feels supported and ready for the year ahead.
Our Year 7s had a smooth transition into high school, spending their first day with their class teachers learning about the school and our programs. By the end of the first day I hope that all nerves were eased, and students are creating connections that may last them a lifetime.
This year, we are excited to build on the success of last year’s full calendar of events. Our international partnerships continue to thrive, with planning for our Italian Exchange program already underway. More global experiences await our students, expanding their horizons beyond the classroom to countries such as France, China and Borneo.
I am also thrilled to announce that upstairs floors of the HUB are now open! While some minor works are still being completed, students and teachers are already using the classrooms and spaces. Our upcoming Welcome events will be a great opportunity for families to visit these new facilities, including our Library, Student Services (Wellbeing and Careers), Practical Laboratory, STEM classrooms, and new amenities.
Our Captains met today at their first Captains Conference and have already started planning activities and events for students in their respective areas. I look forward to supporting them as they bring their ideas to fruition throughout the year.
We’re also delighted to welcome new staff members to our teaching team, you’ll have the chance to learn more about them in upcoming newsletters as they take the time to introduce themselves. This year, we will be changing our frequency of the newsletter publishing 3 or 4 editions of the Newsletter each Term.
Families of Year 7 and Year 12 students will soon receive details about their welcome events—these are wonderful opportunities to connect with teachers and school leaders as we begin this important year together.
We look forward to another fantastic year and to seeing you at an upcoming event soon.
