Captains' Conference

Building student agency and action plans for the year ahead

This Tuesday all the captains got together for the quarterly student leadership conference. We began the day with some ‘get to know you’ activities. We then had Mr Jones meet with us and speak about student agency and leadership. Then we had a visit from guest speaker, Jake, from Vic SRC, who gave us some frameworks about approaching leadership and how to enhance student voice. He spoke about how we could apply leadership techniques regarding student agency to the school environment as well as the local community.

Later on in the day we broke into groups and discussed some plans for upcoming events such as Harmony Day on 21 March and possible ideas for upcoming House Connect lessons. We then shared ideas with each other about what we discussed in small groups. Additionally, further on in the day we broke up into groups again and discussed within year levels our plans for the year.

To finish the day we took some photos together, split into year level captains, performing arts captains, sports captains, inclusion and diversity captains and First Nations captains. Then we split into house groups and took some more photos. Overall, it was a great day for everyone. It gave everyone a chance to meet the other captains and begin some positive action for 2025!
