Pen Pals

Last year we started to build a relationship with some fabulous members in our local community. Students who were interested, wrote letters to members of the Sacred Heart Community. The response from those at Sacred Heart was overwhelmingly enthusiastic and heart warming. Members from SHC shared their memories and hobbies with some of our students and they thoroughly enjoyed receiving letters back from our kids. The staff at Sacred Heart were so grateful that the children from SKiPPS had chosen to engage with their community and ask them questions.

We are going to continue this relationship in 2025. If your child/children would like to write a letter and they have not been assigned a penpal, please address their letter 'Dear Pen Pal'. Generally, the letter recipients try to write back to the child that they received a letter from however, this is not always possible but all letters will be responded to.

If you have a letter to be delivered, please hand it to me (Jac) and I will deliver them all in Week 4 (17/02/25). I look forward to sharing some of the letters in future newsletters.

Home Reading

Home Reading in F-2 is currently being organised with many new books and will be up and running by Week 5. All students in Foundation and Years 1 & 2 are asked to bring their SKiPPS 'Orange Bag' to school every day with their reading book inside.

Thank you for supporting this by reading with your child each night. All students in F-2 will be given a new Home Reading Journal for you to keep a record of what they are reading. The journal has a couple of activity pages included, feel free to give these a go at home. If you have any questions about reading, please see your child's classroom teacher.

Students in Years 3-6 are also encouraged to read each evening at home for 20 minutes. all Year 3-6 students are all participating in novel studies in their classes, it would be great to have another book on the go at home. If you feel that your child needs additional support with the class novel, that is welcome. Some families may choose to download it as an audio book.

The novel studies this term are;

Year 3 Matilda

Year 4 Kensuke's Kingdom

Year 5 War Horse

Year 6 A Ghost in my Suitcase
