Magicians are often mathematicians who wear fancy capes. There are plenty of fun tricks you and your child can work on to amaze your family and friends, whilst building fluency and number facts with your child.
Try this challenge - you may need paper and a pencil.
Step 1 - Ask your child to think of a number, any number.
Step 2 - Then ask them to double it.
Step 3 - Now add 10.
Step 4 - Halve it.
Step 5 - Take away the original number.
Step 6 - Now tell them that you're going to read their mind using all of your amazing magical powers.
Tell them you know the number that they're now thinking of is... 5!
Many magic tricks are rich in mathematics. After amazing your child with this trick, explore the number magic further by:
A reminder that children are not permitted to bring expensive toys or technology to school as they may be lost or damaged.
If your child brings a phone to school for safety reasons, all phones must be kept in the school office at all times throughout the day.
Smartwatches and fitbits are amazing pieces of technology that we can use to make our lives better. They offer a wide range of features and functions. Many students have started wearing these devices to school on a regular basis. Like any piece of technology at school, we must learn to use them in the appropriate way.
Smartwatches or fitbits with access to cellular networks are not permitted at school. This includes all watches and fitbits that have access to message, chat and communication features either through the phone or wifi.
The first day of Term 4 Monday 14th October has been declared by CSPD as a Staff Development Day (Pupil Free Day) for staff to plan and prepare learning opportunities based on the New English and Mathematics Curriculum, introduced this year. Students will return to school on Tuesday 15th October after the school holidays.
The last day of Term 3 - Friday 27th September, is a Staff Development Day (Pupil Free Day) for Staff Spiritual formation. Families will need to make alternative care arrangements for their children.
School attendance plays a critical role in enhancing the lives of children and young people. Every day of attendance adds to a student’s opportunity to learn, develop and experience success in education. There is no safe number of days for missing school. If a student misses as little as four days each term they will have missed over a year of learning by the end of their schooling.
Our aim is to have all students in every grade achieve 100% attendance. To encourage and support regular attendance at school, at the end of each term students who have 100% attendance will receive an award at our end of term assembly.
Thank you for your continued support. Together we can achieve more.
God Bless
