Swimming
Over the past 4 weeks our Prep to Four students have been involved in the swimming program at Lauriston. Students have had an opportunity to further develop their water based skills and demonstrate resilience when trying something new.
In our classrooms
During the week, I had the privilege of being visited by several students who wanted to share their work with me. I listened to many of our budding authors read their writing aloud. Some of the Prep students had written four pages and were rightfully proud of their achievements. The Year One students shared their diary entries from an astronaut’s perspective, and I learned so much about outer space and planets.
All of the samples demonstrated the students' ability to apply their learning from explicit writing lessons, ensuring that their work contained important grammatical features such as full sentences, punctuation, capitalization, connective words, and the correct use of tense. The writing samples also showed how the implementation of our synthetic phonics program supports students in spelling a large number of words correctly and making plausible attempts at unfamiliar words by using their developing sound knowledge. By learning sound-to-letter correspondence, students can spell words by identifying the sounds and selecting the correct graphemes to represent them.
ART SHOW
Last week we hosted our biannual ART SHOW and what an amazing event displaying many high quality art works. Through a high quality arts program planned and delivered by Michelle Reynolds we were able to view student art pieces using a range of mediums. The art works displayed creativity, critical thinking, and emotional expression. The art show was also supported by a number of parent volunteers who worked behind the scenes to create the visual displays and support on the evening. Without parent involvement and support we would not be able to host such valuable events.
