Here are a few photos of some of our Term 3 artwork 😊
Happy holidays everyone!
Science
It has been a fabulous term in science learning about living things.
Prep students gained a good understanding of what a living thing is and what it ‘needs’ to survive; they explored people, animals and planted plants to further test this.
Grade 1 students explored the features of animals and why they have these features. Students learned about the features of underwater creatures, land animals (native), and looked at the body parts and features of worms up close under the microscope!
Grade 2’s have learnt a lot about living things and their lifecycles. They explored the lifecycle of people, then mammals, amphibians and insects. There has been much curiosity and excitement as we watched our mealworms transform through their life cycle (larva to pupa to adult stages).
Grade 3 students have explored what makes an animal a reptile, insect, mammal, amphibian, bird and fish; and how to group animals based on their observable features. They have learnt the skills of Taxonomy and used branching keys to identify animals found in the school playground. Students also discovered plants in the school yard and understood the concept that plants can be grouped in a similar way.
Grade 4’s have delved into plant lifecycles, with a focus on the Eucalypt. They have planted eucalyptus seeds and completed an investigation on factors that can affect a plants lifecycle. Students dissected daffodils and used microscopes to understand how plants reproduce and explored the relationship between plants and insects for survival.
Grade 5’s have studied how living things adapt to survive. They began the term understanding human evolution and moved on to animal adaptations. Students have participated in investigations, research and collaborative learning to explore
the concept and have used their learnings to design and make bear that has adapted to live in the Australian Sturt Desert.
Grade 6’s spent the term learning about microorganisms. Students researched viruses and undertook practical investigations into the condition’s fungi (yeast and mould) best survives and thrives in. Students learnt about microorganisms that survive in extreme environments and finished the term looking for microorganisms in pond water and trying to identify them.
