Year 6 Newsletter

Dear Year 6 Parents,

I hope you have been enjoying the variety in weather this week! As we close out Term 3, here are the highlights from the last week.

Writing: In our writing lessons, students have transformed into budding journalists, working diligently in our newsroom. They have been taking on the roles of writers and editors, contributing to our class news website. The classroom actually transforms into a newsroom during these sessions, with students moving into their teams, communicating ideas to their sub editors, who then converse with the managing editors. It isn’t always easy to get a news item approved or a story to pass the inspections. It's been truly inspiring to witness their creativity and dedication as they report on various topics and events.

Maths: Angles took centre stage in our maths lessons this week. Year 6 students embarked on a geometric adventure, discovering the various types of angles and their applications in the real world. From acute and obtuse angles to right angles and even exploring angles in shapes, our students honed their geometry skills and got their heads around using a protractor.

Country Expo: To finish our inquiry unit, the Country Expo was a resounding success. Students worked diligently to research and create fantastic displays about their chosen countries. They then presented their projects to the entire year level, showcasing their knowledge and presentation skills. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to explore and appreciate diverse cultures from around the world.

Footy Day: It was great to see so many students dressed up and participating in Footy day this year. Well done to the student volleyball team who ran away with a very convincing win against the teachers in our inaugural Teachers vs Students volleyball match!

Upcoming Incursion: "Talk Money": Looking ahead to Term 4, we have an exciting incursion planned called "Talk Money." This educational program will provide valuable insights into financial literacy and responsible money management. It's an opportunity for our students to develop important life skills. Please note that this incursion is free, and we are currently waiting for permission on Compass. We kindly request your consent to ensure your child can participate in this valuable learning experience.

Graduation: Please remember to send through the requested photos (baby, prep, future) and voiceover to help us prepare for graduation. For instructions please see the task on Google Classroom. We really appreciate these items coming through before the end of term.

More information about our upcoming Graduation will be coming early next term.
