Year 3 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the end of Term 3! It is hard to believe that we are already down to our final term of Year 3.

This week we have been busy wrapping up this term’s topics. The students have all worked so hard and should be proud of their accomplishments in each area.

Literacy

In Writing, students finished drafting, editing and publishing their Narratives. These will come home at the end of Term 4 for you to enjoy.

In our Science of Reading lessons and Literacy Rotations, we have been looking at the prefix ‘anti’ and summarising non-fiction texts.

Mathematics

We finished our focus on Multiplication & Division at the end of week 9. We spent the week revising division strategies and the links between addition & multiplication, and subtraction & division. We encourage your child to complete the set Mathletics tasks as revision over the holidays, and utilise the Multiplication & Division worksheets posted on Google Classroom late last term.

This week we began our new focus on Statistics & Probability. We completed a range of probability tests - such as flipping a coin and determining the outcome in a situation. Our focus on this area will continue into the first couple of weeks of Term 4.

Topics for next term

Literacy - Prefixes and Suffixes, word building, spelling rules, comprehension strategies via stand alone and rotation style lessons.

Writing - Information Reports

Maths - Statistics & Probability, Fractions, Decimals, Shape & Chance

Inquiry - Festivals & Celebrations

Wellbeing - Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships

Important Information

Homework

Homework will remain unchanged in Term 4. We are asking for a minimum of 80 minutes of reading a week at home

We will also continue to set 3 Tasks on Mathletics for the students to complete throughout the week. These will become available Friday afternoons and will be explicitly linked to our focus in class.

* Mathletics has released new Certificates in the hope to engage and motivate students. We have spoken a lot about this in class!

We kindly ask that you email your class teacher, or send a note, if your child is unable to complete their homework by Friday morning.

We will not be requiring homework completion for the holidays. However, if you would like to work through anything, Live Mathletics  is always available. We encourage you to continue reading with your child and asking a range of comprehension questions. A holiday journal is always a great way to keep up on writing, if you’re looking for something extra.

Oral Presentations

Next term we'll be asking the students to complete their final Oral Presentation on a World Celebration - this will link directly to our Inquiry Topic. We will communicate further information regarding this presentation in the early weeks of Term 4, and information regarding this will be posted on Google Classroom as always.

Hats & Drink Bottles

Next term is a mandatory hat term - ‘No Hat, No Play’.  We ask that you please locate your child's school hat, or provide them with a wide-brimmed hat in preparation for week 1. We also ask that your child brings a suitable drink bottle to class to stay hydrated.

Camp

An email from Adanac regarding Dietary requirements has been sent out. If this has not already been filled in, we ask that you fill in the necessary information promptly.

Student of the Week

There is no student of the week due to the final week of term. This will recommence back in week 1 of Term 4.

Have a happy and safe holiday,

The Level Three Team.
