Physical Education

This term in PE, the students will be participating in swimming, lacrosse, summer sports and team sports.

To get the students ready for swimming, they participated in a variety of water safety activities.  We learnt about water safety at the beach and the pool and what dangers we need to be aware of and prepare for to stay safe.

We also learnt 4 rescue techniques: talk rescue, reach rescue, throw rescue and rope rescue. The students had a chance to practice a reach rescue, as demonstrated on land by our grade 2 students.

Reach Rescue (on land interpretation).

The students are getting ready for the upcoming swimming lessons.  The 5/6's are off next week and Prep - 4's are in week 8. Looking forward to seeing you all shine and learn more about water safety (hopefully never needing to use it).

French

  • Prep/1: In Term 3, the students learnt four expressions: J'aime (I like), Je n'aime pas (I don't like), J'adore (I love), Je déteste (I hate) to talk about sports.  They are now applying these expressions to a range of topics, such as food and colours.  The students are also revising the concept of masculine/feminine/singular and plural nouns.
  • Grade 2: We are starting a new topic, rooms and objects in a house.  In the first lessons, the students are playing card games to become familiar with the new vocabulary.  Once they have memorised the words orally, they will practise the spelling through fun games and exercises, before being assessed.
  • Grades 3/4: We are doing French maths in class!  The students are about to start a tally of their classmates' favourite sports. In this exercise, they will demonstrate several skills, orally and in written:
    - orally
They will ask each student in their class what their favourite sport is.  They will answer, when asked this question.  They will have to recognise the names of the sports to record their data.
    - in written
They will answer questions such as, 'What is your favourite sport?', 'How many students like basketball the best?, etc...

STEAM

Students in P-2 are focusing on using their technology and engineering skills and knowledge to create a range ot items from fairytale stories.  Last week they worked collaboratively to create a chair to hold Sir Monkey.
