Prep
Learning is Magic
Book week
On Wednesday, the Prep students dressed up as their favourite book characters. They all did a fantastic job showcasing their character costume on the basketball court. The effort and detail in the dress-up costumes were terrific. Congratulations to Edith for winning the costume award for Prep.
Maths
In Math, the Preps have been learning the names and features of three-dimensional shapes and making connections to everyday objects in their environment. Using a variety of three-dimensional objects, they planned and created three-dimensional robots. Each group was given the opportunity to name the three-dimensional shapes and objects used in their construction.
This week, they are exploring odd and even numbers. They listened to the stories My Even Day, One Odd Day and Even Steven and Odd Todd. The students have identified odd and even numbers on the 120 chart in the classroom and created their own odd and even pages.
Literacy
The Preps are writing simple dictated sentences containing CVC and tricky words. After the book week parade, the students drew a picture of themselves at the parade. They orally constructed two sentences; I wrote them, modelled the process, and then the students copied them.
Science week
The students are very excited about doing science experiments this week. They started the week by sharing their wonders about science and the lava lamp experiment. During the experiment, they noticed that the food colouring dropped through the water. They also commented on the bubbles of oil and the bubbles rising from the salt and aspirin. We discussed how materials react with each other. The Preps are looking forward to the upcoming experiments.
