Student Learning

What's been happening in Year 1/2F
In English we learned how to write a procedure. Students followed a fairy bread recipe and made their own fairy bread. The highlight was enjoying tasting our delicious fairy bread!
Harvey commented,
It's so delicious.
Zara commented,
It's so tasty I want to make it again.
In Maths the Year 1s have explored interpreting graphs. They learned that there are various graphs that they could use to extract information from. Some of the graphs they looked at were bar graphs and picture graphs. Students have further developed their mathematical skills by learning how to identify number patterns and using these number patterns to count on from any given number up to 50.
In Maths the Year 2s learned how to use addition and subtraction with regrouping using different mental strategies and place value. They further developed their number strategies using word problems.
Students also learned how to measure objects using centimetres and metres. They explored how centimetres are used to measure the length and width of smaller objects and metres are used to measure the length and width of larger objects. Students compared and ordered lengths from shortest to longest/longest to shortest.
In iUnit the Year 1s learned about the different seasons and how this influences the food we eat and the clothes we wear.
The Years 2s learned about the Solar System. Students made paper mache planets that showed the characteristics of different planets.
In Visual Arts we used paint and different materials to create a water lily pad picture.

Bali Life Stalls
Every year in Term 3, the Year 6s gather around the Oasis Building to set up tables and food for their fellow students. This is the time for Bali Life Stalls.
This year, as Year 6s, we had a lot of fun exploring all the different aspects of Bali Life Stalls. We had 12 stalls all selling different and unique items. We made lots of different foods at home and they all tasted delicious. Practically all of us sold out! There was food like toffee apples, which sold out way too fast, and drinks like milkshakes and spiders! Year 6 students do Bali Life Stalls every year to donate the money to Bali Life, an organisation that “Gives Hope, Dignity & Purpose for the Disadvantaged of Bali and Indonesia”. We donate to help them help others. This year we made $933 to donate. One dollar converted becomes approximately 10300 Indonesian rupiah, so a little goes a long way. They are putting the money towards buying a truck to transport their kids and grocery items. We all really flourished in this amazing opportunity to help and serve others. While having a lot of fun we also learnt a lot of important stuff, like profits, money management, budgeting and negotiating. We had so much fun and enjoyed it a lot. We are so lucky to have a community where we all belong.

Learning Journeys
Our Learning Journeys during the last week of school has been a fun and interactive way to celebrate and showcase our students' learning with their families. Students from Foundation to Year 4 have enjoyed preparing and sharing some of their favourite work from this term, highlighting key pieces from their learning experiences.
We have loved integrating various subjects, including Mathematics, English, Indonesian, Digital Technologies, Visual Art and our iUnits, into these presentations.
We hope families had a meaningful glimpse into what happens in the classroom and a taste of the learning journey that unfolds throughout the school year.

Zoo Snooze Adventure: A Memorable Experience for Year 3
Our Year 3 students had an unforgettable experience at their Zoo Snooze, filled with unique wildlife encounters and exciting activities!
The day started with lunch and playtime on the playground, followed by an exploration of the Adelaide Zoo. Highlights included spotting red pandas nestled high in the trees, tigers lounging against the glass, and even getting to pet a friendly tawny frogmouth!
As the sun set, our overnight guide joined us for dinner, and we set up our sleeping bags. The night walk was a thrilling adventure; we were treated to the sight of Cali the serval, wandering about before heading back to her quarters. We even caught a whiff of popcorn, leading us to the binturong, a fascinating nocturnal mammal from Southeast Asia.
After a restful night, we packed up our gear and enjoyed another morning walk around the zoo before it opened to the public. The meerkats were lively, the lion roared, and the tigers emerged from their night quarters. We even witnessed the vets caring for a falcon with bumblefoot—what an incredible learning opportunity!
Despite feeling tired, everyone had a blast at Bounce; a great end for our students and this amazing adventure.

Living Things
It has become a welcome tradition in the Early Years program to welcome the Henny Penny Hatching Program to Pilgrim School each year. The whole school shares in the joy of watching the eggs hatch through the Tween Room window and the news spreads across the school at the arrival of each little chick. The excitement of 'it's got a crack!' never dulls, no matter how many times we've experienced it. Many classes came to visit and stories were shared about their experiences with the chicks as Foundation students.
The chicks are an important addition to our learning program, supporting our Foundation iUnit on Living Things, and have been integrated into our other curriculum areas. Student's used their observations skills to look at the features of the chicks and marvelled in the changes that occurred in just two weeks.
Questions were posed about our own school chickens,
I wonder how long it will take until they are as big as our Pilgrim chickens?
Can they live with our other chickens?
As you can see from the photos, it was a wonderful two weeks of curiosity, sometimes needing to be brave, and just pure joy.
