POTATO OLYMPICS

Everyone in the school brought a potato to decorate. Every class worked together with their buddies to create a well decorated potato for the Potato Olympics. A couple of days later, in small groups of 4-5 ranging from Foundation all the way to Year 6, we competed in activities based on the Paris Olympics. There were 4 different events: diving, bowling, relay and downhill distance. For diving, you needed to get the smallest splash possible from 30 centimetres high. For bowling, you needed to knock down as many jenga pieces as possible. The relay event involved running around a cone 5 metres away and back, and passing the potato to your team mate with tongs. Finally, we also competed in downhill distance. We put our potatoes between two hockey sticks and rolled them down. The goal was to get the furthest distance possible. All the results of the groups were compared against each other and many people were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals at the Closing Ceremony.

SWIMMING

In Term 3, we went swimming with 3/4 C. From Monday 12th August to Friday 23rd August, we travelled by bus to Haileybury Secondary College in Keysborough. There were 6 groups for each level. The purpose of swimming was to improve our techniques and learn how to stay safe in the water. On the last day of swimming, we had Water Safety Day. We wore t-shirts and shorts over our swimming suits to practise swimming in our average clothes. Swimming is enjoyable for everyone, especially in the Summer. Foundation students will get to go swimming in Term 4.

POLICE VISIT

Senior Constable Jaclyn Mahood, a Police Officer, came to visit our school. She talked about bullying and that bullying is extremely disrespectful. She discussed the different types of bullying including cyber bullying, verbal bullying and physical bullying. Jaclyn reminded us about not sharing our personal information such as our address or login details. We know that we can always talk to trusted adults if we have concerns. Afterwards, we made ‘Bullying No Way’ posters on Canva and displayed them in the shared area as a reminder that bullying is unacceptable!

IMMIGRATION JOURNEYS INCURSION

During our incursion, we learnt about different types of immigration. We explored waves of immigration, for example The Gold Rush. We completed some fun activities in groups, including a flag puzzle, Who Am I? bingo, a citizenship test, a famous immigrants sort and population graphs. We were taught that lots of refugees and immigrants are well known in Australia today, such as Anh Do and Guy Sebastian.

INDONESIAN DAY

Indonesian Day was held on the 30th of August. On this special day, there were activities in the assembly area and in the Library such as scavenger hunts, paper jar, pin the glasses on the orangutan, face paint, lucky dip, Blooket and puzzles. There were prizes for winning activities like stickers, bouncy balls, bubbles and party blowers. ‘The Cool Lads’ performed on stage at the Indonesian Morning Tea, and several students served Indonesian food to parents. We participated in teachers vs students games and 12 students and 12 teachers in total played the games. One of the games was called Makan Oreo. Mason Tran won the game. You put an Oreo on your forehead and you try to get it into your mouth. He got the Oreo in his mouth after 5 seconds! He found a way to get it easily in his mouth the fastest anybody has seen! Nobody knows how he did it! At the end of the games, the students won with two points. This has to be one of the most fun days in school history! Selamat tinggal! (Goodbye)

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

On Thursday 5th of September, we participated in District Athletics which was located at Ringwood Athletics Track. We had a training session on the 3rd of September to get us warmed up for this special day. Everyone who made it to District Athletics did an outstanding job and for the 15th consecutive year, we won the sportsmanship award! Here are the 5/6O results:

Nirvair: 5th for hurdles, relay and long jump

Samuel: 1st for hurdles, 3rd for relay and 200m

Riveesha: 4th for 800m

Skylah: 4th for shot put and discus

Ivy: 3rd in 100m and 4th in 200m and relay

Krishay: 1st for 200m, 2nd for 100m and 5th for 200m

Onal: 2nd for 100m, 3rd for relay and 5th for long jump

Tyson: 1st for cheerleading!

ART SHOW

On the 2nd of September, the Art Show opened to our school community with an assembly. Our Arts Captains cut the ribbon and the choir sang. The art work featured was from this year and last year. There were many different types of art pieces, such as drawings, water colour paintings, 3D clay models and AR sculptures. The scavenger hunt encouraged us to look closely at all of the beautiful work on display!

BOOK WEEK

This week on Monday, we started our Book Week celebrations! We saw a variety of innovative characters with outstanding outfits at the Book Week parade. All the classes came out and had a photo taken. We got to walk around so that people could see our costumes better! Our lovely Library teacher Ms Laming opened the Lamont Book Fair. We are reading the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Shortlisted Books in our Library lessons. In the classroom, we created written profiles of our Book Week characters. We dressed up as Lala from The Little Twin Stars, Shrekadore and Thing 2 from The Cat in The Hat. On Tuesday, we had a famous Australian author and illustrator named Adam Wallace visit to teach us how to draw his amazing and funny art! We heard how he develops ideas for his books and we learnt how to draw like him. He even gave each child in the school a signed copy of one of his books!
