What a great start to Term 4 in Indonesian! Our Prep students enjoyed learning the names of farm animals in Indonesian. They also wrote short sentences to identify each animal and shared which ones they liked best. Bagus!
In Years 1 and 2, students practised a range of words for classroom objects and learned about the school uniforms that Indonesian primary school students wear.
Year 3 and 4 talked about activities they enjoy in their free time. They surveyed their classmates on their favorite hobbies, discovering likes and dislikes, while practicing new vocabulary. It was a fantastic way to build connections and learn more about each other.
Our Year 5 and 6 students tackled reading a timetable in Indonesian, using their knowledge of time and school subjects. They learned to navigate schedules, just like Indonesian students do every day.
Across the junior years, we’ve also been revising colors and numbers through fun, cooperative games and activities. It's been wonderful to see everyone practicing together!
Welcome back to a new term! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is feeling refreshed for the exciting art projects ahead.
Our Preps will kick off the term by exploring one of our favourite stories, ‘The Rainbow Fish’. They’ll dive into colour, texture, and pattern to create their own shimmering Rainbow Fish masterpieces. It’s a fun and creative way to begin the new term!
The 1/2s will be learning about perspective drawing, focusing on creating landscapes with a foreground, middle ground, and background. We can’t wait to see how they bring their landscapes to life with depth and dimension!
Our 3/4 students will be honing their portrait drawing skills by capturing the faces of YRPS staff members. They’ll also interview their subjects to add personality and character to their portraits. It’s going to be an exciting and creative challenge!
The 5/6s will be working on large-scale landscape collages, using a variety of materials to construct vibrant and dynamic scenes. This project will allow them to experiment with scale and composition, resulting in some truly impressive artworks!
This week, our students have been getting musical! Our Prep - Year 2 students have been using their voices, bodies, and percussion instruments to create a piece called "Flying Man." Mrs. James was invited to watch Prep A perform, and she was absolutely blown away by their talent!
Meanwhile, students in Years 3-6 have been exploring the xylophone to compose their own original music using the C pentatonic scale. They were challenged to work in pairs to create their pieces, collaborating closely to brainstorm ideas and refine their compositions. It’s wonderful to see their creativity and teamwork in action!
In the coming weeks, we will begin preparing for our annual Christmas concert, which is always a highlight of the year for our community. We look forward to sharing more details soon!
The past few weeks have been full of fun and active learning in PE across all year levels!
Week 1: Gymnastics Focus
In Week 1, students from Prep to Year 6 took part in a gymnastics unit aimed at developing strength, flexibility, and gross motor skills. They practiced various movements and exercises that enhanced their body control and coordination, laying a strong foundation for physical fitness.
Week 2: Skill Development
Athletics & Basketball Competitions
A huge congratulations to the students who competed in the Division Athletics in Week 1. Special mention to Lanni A and Cruze F, who have progressed through to the Regional Finals!
Additionally, a big shout-out to our Year 5/6 Girls Basketball team, who competed in the Division Finals this week. Although they didn’t progress further, the team played with determination and heart, representing our school proudly.
Our students have been diving into exciting topics in STEM this term, exploring the wonders of science and how the world around us works!
It’s been a fantastic few weeks of exploration and learning, and we look forward to seeing how students continue to grow in their scientific knowledge!
