A lot has been happening in sport since our last newsletter so we have lots of events and people to acknowledge.
Firstly, our Junior Hoop Time (Year 3 and 4) travelled to MSAC on Tuesday 17th September. This is a fabulous opportunity that we give to every student at St James. All students competed in this event from our rookies(students who have not played competitively) through to our Representative basketball players.
We had 5 teams supported by teachers and parents. A huge thank you to Michelle Thomas who coached the All Star boys team and Jac Hancock who assisted. Thank-you also to Irina Nikolajenko who supported one of our rookies teams. Congratulations to all of our teams who won some and lost some, who learnt more about the sport of basketball and about themselves and how to play in a team. As always we were super proud of our students on this day.
On Monday of the last week of Term 3 we had 5 players from the AFLW St Kilda team come and spend time teaching football skills and answering questions about their training and requirements. The players were fantastic with our students and we are very grateful for their visit.
Footy Colours Day is always a lot of fun and thank-you to our fabulous sports leaders Ava, Nic, Ethan, Cami and Evie, this year was no exception. Our leaders organised a rotation of 5 football related activities which our students worked through. A huge thank you to Sally, Rose, Barbara and Michelle who cooked the BBQ on the day and handed out popcorn and juice to all students. Thank-you also to the parents behind the scenes who organised the trybooking and purchasing of the items.
On the first day back of Term 3 St James sent a team of 54 students from Year 3-6 to the Holt District Athletics carnival. Our team is chosen from the St James Athletics Carnival held in Term 1.
Well done to all students who ran and jumped as fast and as long as they could. St James placed 5th overall.
On Tuesday this week 10 of our students who placed 1st or 2nd in their event competed at Beachside. Beachside is the next level up of competition which combines students from 8 other district schools. To compete here is a huge achievement. Well done to Holly, Iris, Niah, Matilda, Emily, Annie, Tia, Ethan, Ivy and Maddie for making it through to Beachside. The competition is always very tough. A huge thank you also to their parents for accompanying them on this day.
Matilda from Year 5 finished 2nd in the High Jump clearing a huge 1.37ms!!!! With that amazing result she has now qualified to compete at the Regional Finals on Monday 21st October. We wish Matilda all the best.
Today our students have had the first of three 30 min sessions of yoga and meditation. A huge thank-you to Mrs Nicola who has made eye pillows for all students for these sessions. The sessions will continue on the 1st and 8th November.
