Founders Day 2024

We celebrated our inaugural Founders Day on Tuesday and what a fantastic celebration it was! The day begun with Mass, in thanksgiving for the Sisters of Mercy who founded our school in 1898. Primary students learnt about our founders and participated in activities to increase their knowledge of our school history.

The highlight of our celebration was the St Philomena's Founders Day Boat Race. Each secondary PAC constructed a cardboard boat to be used to run a race around the school. Crew members needed to include least one representative from each year group and minimum two female students. Students also need to research and prepare a presentation about Catherine McAuley and the Sisters.

Boats had to include the story of the Mercy Sisters, with

  • Symbols and images of the Sisters of Mercy
  • A flag
  • A statement about the design of the boat.

Students gave outstanding presentations to the whole school outlining the work and importance of the Sisters of Mercy to our school. It was a fantastic team effort by all secondary students and included primary students as the cheer squads.

The boat race will become an annual event and we can't wait to see the boats in 2025!
