Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

There have been many highlights this term for our community. Our students have achieved success on the sporting fields as well as winning the Brain Olympia at Gunnedah. A very successful Primary concert, Canberra excursion, Fathers day and Grandparents day contributed to building connections in our community. The Spring fair was also a highlight and was a credit to a hard working and diligent P&F committee.

The visible signs of success are evident. Less evident to the community was the success within the classroom. In particular I want to highlight the shift in attitude and performance of many of our secondary students. There has been a gradual cultural shift that we want to maintain into the future. Having a results orientation has lifted academic performance and effort. Our infants and primary students remain happy and vibrant. They enjoy learning and being with their teachers.

Next term our Aboriginal students from Primary and Secondary will be involved in the NSW Catholic Schools Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander conference which our Diocese is hosting in Tamworth. Our Primary students will perform at Myall creek and our secondary students will be on stage at the TRECC centre in front of delegates from all over NSW. This is a significant occasion for our students as they join in the celebration of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education excellence and culture. Also next term our Year 9/10 students will be having a week in Sydney and Year 5 will be enjoying Lake Keepit.

This week at the monthly Building site meeting we were informed that the completion of the new Administration block including staff room and executive offices will be mid January. This will mean our office staff, senior leadership team and secondary staff will be able to move into spaces prior to the start of the new school year. However the secondary learning spaces are expected to be completed at the end of term one.

This term we farewell some staff members. Ms Grace Lynch as been an education assistant and has provided valuable support for our staff and students. Mr Chris Sim has only been with us this term but has made a significant impact. Chris is a strong teacher who will be spending time overseas broadening his experiences. Mrs Lindsay Powell has been with us for 3 years. Lindsay has been a valuable member of the teaching staff and has assumed the role of Leader of Secondary care. The impact Chris and Lindsay have had was evident in the students' response to their leaving many presenting gifts and cards. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

Wishing you all a restful vacation period.

Regards

Simon Fleming
