Their game will now be judged by a panel of experts, with the team achieving the highest average score announced as the winner.
A huge thank you to Ms Low, Digital Tech and Media Teacher, for her guidance and support, and well done to the students for their creativity, teamwork and dedication.
Vietnam History Incursion
Henry Duncan, Year 11, Humanities Captain
On 27 August, the Unit 1 and 2 Modern History class had the honour of meeting Vietnam War veteran Brendan Kincade OAM, who shared his deeply personal experiences of this controversial war from an Australian perspective.
Like many, Brendan did not choose to go to Vietnam. On his 21st birthday, he was taken from his family, girlfriend and job to serve in a war that was terrifying and already deeply polarising. He described how he and his fellow Australian soldiers were treated upon returning home (not well, even by organisations such as the RSL). Yet, he spoke with generosity and forgiveness about those he served with, many of whom became lifelong friends, and about his ongoing volunteer work with schools and Vietnamese organisations to teach the lessons of war.
Brendan brought an entire museum in boxes to share with the class, including SLR magazines, his ration pack, punji sticks, soldiers’ kit and boots, a replica model of the Vietcong tunnels, and numerous personal photos.
It was an incredible experience to hear Brendan’s first-hand account of the Vietnam War from such a unique perspective. It served as a powerful reminder of the humanity, reason, forgiveness and understanding that the study of History can offer.
