Principal's Report

Michelle Mackenlay

It's hard to believe we have finished 6 weeks of school already! And a special mention to our Foundation students who started their first full week, this week, after having

Wednesdays off to complete testing. We also have the school nurse completing Foundation student Health Assessments, so please return your form if you haven't already done so.

Yesterday I attended the Southern Metropolitan Principal Forum which was held at Pakenham Racecourse. It was an opportunity to work with principals from other schools and networks, as well as Department of Education staff. The day was focused around the implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM), as pictured below. Our school, along with all Victorian government schools are working to embed the VTLM 2.0 in their teaching and learning programs from the start of the 2028 school year. The VTLM 2.0 introduces an emphasis on the evidence about how students learn as the basis for effective teaching. It provides increased clarity for our teachers about the elements of teaching that have the strongest evidence base. A focus for our staff meetings continues to be changes to our teaching and learning models.

Assemblies

Over the next 2 weeks all year levels will have their own PLT Assembly. These assemblies are held in the gym and families are encouraged to attend. This is where Reading Night certificates will be celebrated, as well as other acknowledgments and reminders. You can check your times on the "PLT Assemblies" page of this newsletter edition.

Our next Whole School Assembly is on Monday 31st of March at 9:10am, this will include the badge presentation for our newly elected Student Representative Council.

Public Holiday - No School

Also a reminder that The Labour Day public holiday is on Monday 10th March. This means that the school will be closed and students do not attend school.

School returns as normal on Tuesday 11th March at 9am.

2025 Student Representative Council (SRC)

The SRC ensures that student voices are heard and included in school decision-making.

I often use their input to help inform decisions into the school environment, learning resources, events and wellbeing initiatives. This year's SRC will actively seek input from students of different backgrounds and experiences. I congratulate our 2025 SRC students who will be presented to the community at the next Whole School Assembly.

Easter Donations and Raffle

On the last day of term, we are having our annual Easter Bonnet Parade.  Children are encouraged to start creating an Easter bonnet at home to wear on the day.

We invite parents to join us for the parade as the event will be held in the gym.  We will also be drawing the winners of our Easter Raffle during the event.

Our Easter Raffle ticket booklets will be sent home on Friday 7th March for $1 per ticket.

Following on from the call for nominations for our School Council I can confirm that we have successfully received 2 nominations from members of our school community.  As the number of nominations is equal to the number of vacancies we can declare that all positions have now been filled successfully and we will not need to hold a ballot.

All 2025 School Council members are:

Jenn Martin

Sharon Diehl

Lee Russell

Michelle Mackenlay

Sarah Bannister

David McNamara

Gemma Pearson

Stephanie Harrip

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our School Council members for their interest in supporting our school.

NAPLAN 2025

Good luck for our Year 3 and 5 students for NAPLAN which starts next week.

Wednesday 12th is Writing assessment

Thursday 13th is Reading assessment

Monday 17th is Mathematics assessment

We have some amazing parent helpers coming in to serve a NAPLAN Breakfast for each morning, so our students are ready to do their best.

Please see the NAPLAN section in this edition of the newsletter.

Thank you Parent Helpers

With all of the amazing activities upcoming at our school, I would like to thank all of the parents and family members who continue to volunteer as Parent Helpers. Whether that be attending an excursion, helping out at the Junior Sports Day, Cross Country, Breakfast Club or any other school activity, please know that you are appreciated and the events would not run as well without you.

I also thank in advance the parents who recently completed training and will volunteer in the near future. We had a great turn out to our recent Parent Helper Course and look forward to seeing some new faces at our events!
