Fantastic 3/4

Term 1 Week 2 2025

What have we been up to?

The 3/4 teachers would like to welcome back all the students and parents to a new school year. We have all had a lovely start to the first two weeks. It’s great to see so many happy faces at school!

Students have been working on a series of activities to jump start our school year, while focusing on our school and classroom culture. We have centred our learning around the 7 Habits and how we can become leaders at school and at home. Each class has created their classroom mission statement as well as a personal mission statement. Students have applied for classroom leadership roles and are working towards creating their personal and academic WIGs (Wildly Important Goals) for the term. These activities have had the students participating in classroom discussions, working and collaborating as a team (in pairs and small groups), as well as working well independently. We can’t wait to see what else they will achieve as the year progresses.

In literacy, we have launched our new phonics program, with a strong focus on decoding and spelling words. As part of our novel study, we have begun reading Matilda. This week, students engaged in activities that involved responding to questions about the story, exploring and understanding new vocabulary, expanding sentences, and writing sentences using coordinating conjunctions.

In Maths, students have started exploring the concept of place value. They are learning to partition, rearrange, and regroup numbers up to at least the tens of thousands, helping to build a deeper understanding of number relationships.

Homework will be sent home starting in Week 3. Each Monday, students will receive a maths and spelling sheet to complete and return by the following Monday. Additionally, we encourage students to read for at least 20 minutes each night with a book of their choice.
