Congratulations to Elliot (6F), Ambassador of the year!

Today during assembly, Elliot was surprised by a very special award, out of 500 VMAP student ambassadors in Victoria, he is being awarded Ambassador of the Year. Ellie from the Dolphin Research Institute presented the award.

A beautiful poem, From Amelie (4G)

Autumn

The red leaves on trees,

With hints of orange too,

Drifts down to the ground gracefully,

As if the leaves lifted up and flew.

As if the wind was as light as snow,

As if the breeze was as soft as clouds,

As if the owls weren’t already filled with know,

As if the woods weren’t filled with loud howls.

Winter’s just a line away,

And the loving warm heat seems to be miles away,

For during these cold, chilly days,

Why play and play when you could just sleep away…

Grade 6 cohort at Gumbaya World

On the 11th of December, the year 6 students all went to Gumbuya World on buses. There were waterparks and several different attractions like roller coasters, a petting zoo, food stands and several more.

We chose our groups to be in and the teachers allowed us to spend the day roaming around the area. The scariest ride was the Zero-Gravity. This is because the riders would be dropped from a height of 50m and travelled at a speed of 105 km/hr! The orange rollercoaster was fast and our anticipation when the

rollercoaster slowly started to mount a hill was exhilarating because we knew that soon, the rollercoaster was going to drop suddenly.

Of course, we all got to go on several attractions even though we didn’t get that much time in the park and there was quite a lot of queues for every attraction.

This was a special day memory for the Year 6s with their graduation. We had so much fun trying out water slides, scary roller coasters, and seeing our native animals. One of our

number 1 rides was the Boomerang water attraction, it started off like a normal water slide with 4 people sitting in a circle on a floaty but when the ride was about to finish, a sudden drop made everybody scream for their lives. There was of course the Lazy River where we were able to relax for a while. We even saw 2 peacocks strutting around the entrance when the 6s were heading out!

Despite having a short amount of time, this day was filled with incredible memories that will be remembered, and we are all extremely grateful for the people who made this adventure possible. 😊

Extention writing

During our second semester, a group of Year 5 students took part in a writing enrichment group with Mrs Brunton. They learnt about some of the advanced features we use when writing, and how to apply these to their own piece of text.

The brief for their writing task was to record a momentous occasion in their life. It was up to each individual, as the author, to decide the magnitude of what they would choose to write about.

Each week, the students received explicit teaching on appositives, subordinate conjunctions, vivid language and other literary devices. They critiqued one another’s work and honed their writing in response to feedback.

Below is a sample of their finished products, which they are understandably proud of.

Musée de l'Immigration: Notre-Dame de Paris

Le 4 décembre, certains élèves sont allés voir une exposition sur Notre Dame de Paris. Il fallait scanner un “Portail temporel” avec un Ipad qui s'appelait un Histopad et ensuite tu pouvais soit faire pivoter Notre Dame de Paris ou tu pouvais bouger l’Histopad et tu pouvais voir une scène en 3D comme pour la fresque de Napoléon Bonaparte qui couronne sa femme. Nous avons pris le tram pour y aller, ensuite nous avons trouvé le Musée d'immigration et attendu un peu. Quand nous avons terminé l’exposition nous avons mangé notre goûter et nous sommes rentrés à l'école.

Les CE2 imaginent le monde en 2200

Pendant ce trimestre, on a travaillé sur un projet d’écriture dont le thème était comment le monde allait ressembler en 2200. On devait écrire sur les objets comme les gadget du futur, l’alimentation, les habitations, l’école et les moyens de transport. On s’est tous envolé dans notre imagination sans fin. On a tous aussi eu le droit d’utiliser notre creativité. On a utilisé le site internet canva. Voici ce qu’on a fait.

J’ai aimé ce projet parce que j’ai pu utiliser mon imagination et ma creativité. J’ai aussi aimé choisir les photos pour les inclure sur canva. C'était trop amusant.

J’ai bien aimé le projet d'écriture, je trouve que c'était une très bonne idée. J’ai appris comment utiliser canva. La plupart de mon imagination vient des livres. Ça fait travailler à peu près toutes les matières en même temps. Grâce au projet d'enquête j’ai appris beaucoup de choses sur les animaux du désert. C'était passionnant de le faire.

Pour le projet c'est la première fois que j'utilisais canva au début j’avais du mal à l'utiliser, j’ai reussi à faire un projet. Il y avait l'école, l'alimentation et les transports et les objets en 2200. On l'a écrit sur le cahier d'essai et après on l'a écrit sur l’ordinateur. Tout n'était pas facile sur canva mais c'était amusant. Le projet d'écriture devait être au futur simple parce que c'était en 2200. On devait parler du futur. Finalement, j'étais fière de mon projet d'écriture.
