Red Door Community Kitchen

St Joseph’s started visiting the Red Door kitchen in Term 1 this year and over the course of the year over 80 students have spent time there assisting other volunteers in the community. The Red Door Community Kitchen in Muswellbrook is a non-profit organisation that provides meals and support to the local community. It operates out of the Uniting Church Hall on Bridge Street, and it was officially opened in December 2020. The Red Door Community Kitchen offers some stability for people who require assistance in its most basic form - a roof and something to eat. It aims to support those who may be experiencing food insecurity, social isolation, or financial hardship. By offering free or low-cost meals, the kitchen helps to ensure that everyone has access to healthy food. Part of the money raised from our Community Day held a few weeks ago was donated today to Red Door at the final Christmas lunch for the year. Mrs Eveleigh, Mrs Shipman, Mrs Rolfe, Mr O’Toole and Mrs Carr have had the pleasure of accompanying these students each week. It has been a very humbling experience for us as staff to work alongside other volunteers in the community but also watch our students live out Mary McKillop’s motto ‘Never see a need without doing something about it.’
