HSIE News - Crime Story

In Week 8, over the span of two days, Year 10 participated in the Crime Story workshop run by the former Detective Luke Taylor and his wife former police officer, Brenda. Crime Story is about educating students about investigating, analysing and observing a crime scene as well as learning about making a judgement and inferences.

We were taught these skills through examining physical evidence, fingerprinting, questioning, and solving a crime. In the beginning of the workshop, Luke shared some of his prior experiences in the police force allowing Year 10 students to get to know him and understand his background. We learnt how to analyse which has enhanced our learning skills in History and English which will be used in further learning tasks.

Luke selected three students including myself to participate in a mock arrest to further extend our knowledge and experience on the way to arrest a person. This created some excitement and laughter within the group of students, and it was definitely one of the best highlights of the day. “This event was an opportunity I am very grateful I had. Luke and Brenda have taught me so much about the police force and what occurs day to day” – Alice D (Year 10 student).

On behalf of Year 10 students, I would like to thank and acknowledge the effort Luke and Brenda Taylor have put into The Crime Story workshop, and for Ms Thomas organising the event.
