International Education Expo for Victorian High School Students
Seventeen students recently attended the International Education Expo, an exciting and informative event specially designed for Year 10, 11, and 12 international students currently studying in Victorian high schools.
The expo brought together representatives from a wide range of universities and TAFE institutions, giving students a valuable opportunity to explore future study pathways, ask questions, and gather important information about higher education options in Australia.
Throughout the afternoon, students had the chance to:
Speak directly with university and TAFE representatives
Learn about courses, entry requirements, and career pathways
Explore scholarship opportunities and student support services
Gain insights into campus life and future study options
Receive guidance on planning for tertiary education after high school
The event provided students with greater confidence and understanding as they begin thinking about their future education and career goals. It was also a wonderful opportunity for students to discover the many pathways available after completing secondary school in Victoria.
The 17 students who attended found the expo both informative and inspiring, gaining valuable knowledge to help them make informed decisions about their future studies.
Thank you to Ms Geng and Ms Zhu for organising this very valuable event.
Year 10 Excursion to Waitress the Musical
Year 10 Drama and Theatre studies students recently travelled into the city to see a production of Waitress the Musical at Her Majesty's Theatre. I had the pleasure of accompanying Ms Pethick (the organiser) her preservice teacher Lucas and the students on this exciting and educational excursion.
The performance provided students with the opportunity to experience professional live theatre and further develop their understanding of the performing arts. During their next classes back at school, the students will be analysing a variety of design elements, including lighting, costume, set design, sound, and staging, and exploring how these elements create meaning within the performance.
Students will also examine the acting and performance skills demonstrated by the cast, including the use of voice, movement, expression, and characterisation to engage the audience and communicate the story effectively.
The excursion was both an enjoyable and valuable learning experience, giving students insight into how creative and technical elements work together in live theatre productions.
Thank you to Ms Pethick for organising this wonderful experience for the students to attend.
NEVR Concert at Hamer Hall
Hamer Hall was alive with music last night as talented students from government schools across the North Eastern Victoria Region gathered for a special concert. Mr Miller and I were honoured to be able to see our students shine at this prestigious event.
The program was inspired by myths, folklore, heroic journeys, and musical legends, guiding the audience through a series of works that vividly brought these stories to life through music.
A wide variety of combined ensembles highlighted the breadth of talent and commitment within school music programs across the region. These ensembles included a Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Secondary Choir, Primary Choir, as well as soloists and small chamber groups. Among the featured solo performances, Chris was the first, delivering a confident and well-executed piano performance that set a strong tone for the remainder of the evening. Students from Highvale Secondary College were well represented, contributing to the overall strength of the performance. It was a truly memorable evening of music.
