SACSA Athletics — Friday 1 May

What a wonderful day our students had at the SACSA Athletics carnival on Friday! From start to finish, our students represented the school beautifully — competing with energy, determination, and great sportsmanship throughout the day. We couldn't be prouder of how they carried themselves.

The unseasonably warm weather for May made conditions a little challenging, but that didn't dampen anyone's spirit. A big thank you to the students, staff, and families who came out to cheer — your support means so much.

Light Up the Night — Friday 8 May

Coming up this Friday, our Parents & Friends Committee is hosting a Light Up the Night evening — and it promises to be a fantastic night for the whole family! Expect glow-in-the-dark basketball and soccer, plus a disco for the kids to enjoy.

Families are warmly invited to come along, grab some drinks and nibblies, and socialise in the courtyard — or jump into the action and join in the games yourself!

Colour Run

We are pleased to be conducting our School Colour Run on the afternoon of Friday 22 May, 2026. This will be a fun community event and will also give the students an opportunity to enjoy exercise. It has the added benefit of also acting as an optional fundraiser for the next planned stages of some playground improvements around the school.

Direct donations to the Future Fund can be made via the Qkr! app, or via cash, card or direct debit through the School Office.

All measures have been taken to ensure that this event is safe for all students. Students will run (or walk, or skip!) around a circuit on the school oval. There will be various colour powder stations throughout the circuit with two designated lanes – one for colour powder, the other with no powder. Your child can still participate in the event should you not wish for them to be sprayed with colour powder. It is not a race or a timed event, but all about fun!

Staff and volunteers at the colour stations will do their best to throw the powder at the torsos of participants (between shoulder and hip level), however wind and other factors can occasionally result in students getting some powder in the face from time to time. You may wish for your child to bring their own eye protection such as sunglasses or goggles and/or a face mask if you wish.

The day will be a casual clothes day for our students. To heighten the effectiveness of the colour powder, we ask students to wear a plain white t-shirt, and students are asked to either purchase an inexpensive one for the day, or to reuse last year's if this is an option. Shirts should have sleeves for sun protection (singlets are not appropriate), and enclosed footwear must be worn at all times. A hat is required for sun safety. As with all our events, clothing should not display inappropriate text, images, or references to social or political themes. If you would like to preserve the colour in your child's white t-shirt, you can try spraying it with vinegar, letting it dry and then ironing it. But if you wash it.... the colour eventually will come out!

The colour powder used in the event is non-toxic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly consisting of 98% corn starch and 2% food colouring. It will likely wash out of your child’s clothing, and that the loose particles can be brushed off, however we recommend that you consider the possibility of minor staining when selecting your child’s clothing for the day and perhaps consider sending them in some older clothing and shoes. You may also send a change of clothes if you would like your child to change after the event prior to the end of the school day. We would ask that all students catching the school minibus at the end of the day bring a change of clothes. if you are picking your child up by car, you may also wish to bring a towel to cover your car seats.

We welcome parent volunteers to assist with the Colour Run on checkpoints on the course and in other roles. If you are interested in volunteering for the afternoon, please indicate this when completing the online permission note.

Please complete the online permission note via TASS Parent Lounge by Friday 15 May.  If you have questions about this activity, please contact the school.

Buildings and Facilities Master Plan 2026 - 2036

As many of our families would be aware, our school is currently implementing our Strategic Plan for 2024 - 2028, which is located on our website

To tie in with our Strategic Plan, the School has engaged long-time Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School architect Craig Vale from Arkvale Architects to undergo a new Buildings and Facilities Master Plan.

We would love to hear from you! Please take a few minutes to complete our parent survey by clicking on the link below. Your feedback will play a meaningful role in guiding the future of our buildings, facilities, and learning spaces — and we want to ensure that everything that flows from this process is planned and designed with real depth and thoughtfulness.

Please complete the survey here by Friday 15 May, 2026.

Your input within the parent survey will help and guide us immensely throughout this exciting process.

As part of the Master Plan review, we will also be reviewing our carpark and general traffic flow. This will include traffic engineers on site in the coming weeks.

Your generosity in making a deposit with  the LLL through a Charitable Facility Account which will assist us in upgrading our Foundation playground.

The funds you hold in your Facility will generate notional amounts of interest that is retained by LLL who will make a regular allocation to us to further our project, while your original investment remains completely untouched.

Our partnership with LLL Australia makes it simple and secure by:

  1. Opening a new LLL Charitable Facility.
  2. Nominating Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School as the preferred beneficiary of the interest your facility will forgo.

That's it! You can rest easy knowing your money is making a meaningful difference in our community—all with zero fees or charges to you.

Breathe!

Over the years I have written about Nero Education and how important it is to breathe. I wanted to remind you of when and how breathing can be used to support student learning and calming the brain.

We ask our students to take time to breathe using fun techniques. It’s all about calming the brain so that it is in the best state possible to make positive and calming decisions. Also, when we are anxious, angry or stressed our breathing becomes faster and shorter and creates higher anxiety. Slowing our breathing helps to calm the brain and take control of what’s happening.

Some favourites amongst the students are smell the roses, running over the fingers on our hands and shape breathing. There are so many ways to breathe. Remind your child next time they are anxious to breathe. It is also a good technique to put in your own armour of strategies.

The below link discusses the importance of breathing and how it ‘melts stress.’ It is easy to do and can be done anytime and anywhere.

Don’t forget to breathe!!
