Message from the Principal
Cecilia Parada
Dear families
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been sharing with our students my personal journey as a former student of Meadowbank Public School back in the 1970s. Recently, I came across a letter I had written to our then-principal, Mr W Meredith. I shared this story with our wonderful students, inviting them to write me a letter as well. I promised to read each one, present them with a principal’s sticker, and return the letter for them to keep as a keepsake. These letters can be posted into the school mailbox next to the library.
You never know what the future holds for our children. I doubt Mr Meredith could have imagined that one day I would return as a principal of Meadowbank Public School. While my childhood dream was always to become a teacher, I recognise that our students hold a vast array of dreams and incredible potential.
I am immensely proud of our staff and the wider school community who work tirelessly to ensure Meadowbank is a place that nurtures, encourages, and provides every student with the best possible opportunity to achieve their aspirations.
Congratulations to all our outstanding students who qualified to represent Meadowbank Public School at this week’s Zone Cross Country Carnival! We are incredibly proud of your hard work and dedication. Stay tuned for the event results, which we will share in the next newsletter.
A big thank you to our P&C for supporting the event by running the BBQ - your efforts help make these opportunities even more memorable for our students and community.
The school is reaching out to you regarding your child's absence to ensure their wellbeing and to comply with Departmental policy requiring parental explanations for student absences. It's important for us to maintain open communication with families, as we prioritise the health and safety of our students. By checking in, we aim to understand any challenges your child may be facing and to provide support where needed. If there are any issues or circumstances affecting your child's attendance, please feel free to share them with us. Our school is committed to promoting regular attendance and addressing any safety, welfare, or wellbeing concerns in partnership with parents.
Many parents ask how we explicitly teach early literacy. Our school uses InitiaLit and MultiLit programs to support reading development Kindergarten to Year 2.
InitiaLit is a structured program focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics, and comprehension, building a strong foundation for early readers. MultiLit provides targeted support for students needing extra help to improve reading fluency and comprehension.
These programs have been highly effective, and we’re proud of the progress our students make. For questions about your child’s literacy, please speak with their teacher.
To support reading at home, try these strategies:
These steps can help foster your child’s reading skills and love of literature.
A big thank you to Nicole Irwin, the P&C and parent volunteers. The Mother's Day stall was a big success, giving our students an opportunity to purchase a gift for their loved ones. I hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day.
Our first P&C meeting for the term is scheduled for Tuesday, 19 May. It will take place in the school staffroom and online via Teams, starting at 7:30 pm.
All families and community members are welcome to attend.
