Now we are well into Term 2 (Week 4), students are in the latter stages of their Semester 1 subjects, and their final assessments will occur across the next four weeks. It would be a rare student who did not find themselves with any homework or independent revision to complete in preparation for the end of semester CATs or in-class exams. Parents, you may like to enquire about up-coming assessments with your Year 10 Student. CAT dates are usually included on COMPASS lesson plans too. Semester 2 will start in Week 9 of Term 2. CORE subject classes remain the same.
All students have previously been informed of their Semester 2 subjects. Prior to the upcoming change of semester, some students may be able to request a subject change. Please see the process below for a student making a subject request change.
IMPORTANT: Year 10 Subject Request for Change Process:
In the coming weeks, the school will email out the Semester 2 electives to the cohort as a reminder of their selections.
If students wish to request a subject change for Semester 2, they must collect a form from the Year 10 SM's. Forms will be available in Week 6 only.
Students may request ONE change before Semester 2 commences (it is not based on friends or teachers). There must be an educational reason for the change.
Forms will be numbered on return and processed in the same order they are received. Many classes are already full, so requested subject changes are not guaranteed.
Students have one week to complete this process: Monday 25th - Friday 29th May. Forms may be collected from the year 10 Student Managers’ Office from Monday 25th May and returned by Friday May 29th; a parent signature is required on the form. No unsigned forms will be processed.
No further subject changes will occur in Semester 2.
In other news, the Year 10 Students are looking forward to participating in the District Intermediate Sport competitions this week. Good luck to the teams.

The year 10 Biology classes have had some exciting visitors in their classrooms this term! Students participated in a program from Monash University called ‘BioEyes’, where research brought Zebra fish to Vermont for a week. On Monday students selected two adult fish as parents, allowed them time to breed overnight, and collected their 400 eggs the next morning. They then spent the remainder of the week observing the development of the embryos inside the eggs under a microscope and watched with excitement as tiny baby Zebra fish hatched by Friday.

This program was a great start to the Genetic Inheritance unit that students are now working on.
Thank you to Masha for taking an incredible photo of an embryo under the microscope!
