Clay Target Shooting
South West Zone Noorat Competition
On 28th August, King's College was represented by 13 students at the South West Zone Noorat Clay Target Competition. The day was cold, windy and at times hailed with some heavy rain. As an all-weather sport, we were thankful that our students only shot in clear weather missing the rain.
This was our most successful competition to date and we had three students advance to the state finals from here. Esther in Year 11 achieved her best result yet, securing an outright 1st place in Senior Girls and an invitation to the State finals for the third year in a row, an incredible achievement.
Will in Year 8 placed second in Junior Boys with 2 other competitors, taking him to a shoot off. He ended up winning his first ever shoot off holding his nerve to beat out the other two competitors, earning the second placing.
Breanna in Year 8 in her first year of shooting, placed third in Junior Girls and had done so with a brilliant first round of shooting.
Congratulations to all the competitors who represented the school so well.
State Finals Echuca Competition
After competing in the SWZ, we had the opportunity to advance three students to the State Finals in Echuca for Clay Target shooting. Unfortunately, it had to be a very quick turnaround and one was not able to attend. Esther (Year 11) with her third straight appearance at the State Finals and Breanna (Year 8) travelled up for the competition.
Esther came into some misfortune with a carbon copy injury as the last year at practice the day before the competition. With a courageous display, she did not shoot as well as she had hoped and still placed 10th in the state.
Breanna shot very well in her first round and was positioned well to place on the podium after her second round. She had to wait to watch how other competitors in her division shot, some of whom shot brilliantly and even better than the Senior girls with their final scores. This just knocked Breanna off the podium, finishing fourth in the state - an incredible effort for a rookie season of shooting.
Well done to both girls for a great effort in getting into the state finals.
