Junior School

Year 1
In Year 1, we’ve been celebrating our amazing dads and father figures! The children thought they were loving, kind, funny, helpful, and even “the best.” Our dads do lots for us like cooking dinner, helping us when we’re hurt, playing games, and planning fun adventures. We also loved having a yummy breakfast at school with our dads to make Father’s Day extra special. This Father’s Day, we thanked God for our dads and all the special ways they love us.
We also enjoyed wearing a splash of yellow for RUOK? Day - a day about caring for others. Below are a few things our class thought you could do to check in on their friends:
- “You can ask a friend if they are OK.”
- “If someone is sad, you can play with them.”
- “Listening helps people feel better.”
- “We can be kind every day, not just on RUOK? Day.”

Year 2
Year 2 had an amazing time at swimming recently! It is always so wonderful seeing their improvement across the two weeks. Everyone loved the final challenge of attempting to touch the flags from the mat in the water on the last lesson. No one was able to reach it (this time), but that didn't deter the Year 2s from believing they could! A huge thank you to all of the parent helpers that came to help out and watch, and the incredible swim instructors!
Earlier in the year, when Gideon Kabenge visited the school, the Year 2s wrote letters to students at Ararat Christian Junior School in Uganda. Each Year 2 received a beautiful reply back from a student. They loved reading their letters and learning more about the students at Ararat Christian School! Thank you, Gideon, for passing the letters and replies along! It is a blessing to have such a wonderful relationship with students and teachers on the other side of the world!
This week, Year 2 engaged in their third Big Write! As we've been learning about the Importance of the Past/Our Productive Past, students wrote a journal/diary entry about life in the 1800s. Thinking back to our excursion to Flagstaff Hill and the clothes they wore, the food they ate, and the things they did, the Year 2s wrote about a day in their life, as a student in the 19th century. They've all done an excellent job and have been blowing me away with their incredible writing skills!
Finally, Year 2s have also put their Science knowledge into action this week as students designed then created sculptures using recycled materials. As they've been learning about different materials and changes to them in our unit, Take, Shape and Create, students have cut, twisted, scrunched, folded, bent, and compressed materials to produce these creative sculptures! Well done Year 2!

Year 3
The last fortnight has been a busy one in grade 3 with swimming, Father’s Day preparation and our end of Learning Cycle!
We had a wonderful afternoon getting reacquainted with our Prep buddies, who are now in Year 9!
Mr and Mrs Zeunert also came into school and gave us a super interesting talk about the age of the earth from a Creationist perspective. We learnt a lot of cool things and this helped us prepare to visit the museum when we go on camp next week!
We have been taking turns putting the spotlight on someone in our room and this week we have had interesting things shared by Ruhaan, Georgia and Jeremy!
And we have continued our learning about matter in science and made some pretty cool slime!

Year 4
The Year 4 classroom continues to be a flurry of activity as we prepare and get excited for our camp at Melbourne Zoo next week. In preperation, this week George, Henry and Theo worked together to create a class quiz all about the city of Melbourne. Well done boys on a wonderful quiz! We all enjoyed researching to find the answers and learnt a lot about Victoria's capital city.
In Maths this week we have been looking at tessellation and how it occurs in nature. We discovered that honeycomb, a pineapple, an orange, a tortoise shell and fish scales all contain examples of tessellation. The students marveled at how amazing our God is that even in his creation he used maths to make things beautiful! Here are some photos of students working on their tessellation artwork.

Year 4/5
Year 4/5 have had a great few weeks of performing, learning and exploring. Everyone did a great performance in Assembly a few weeks ago, and we been out exploring our local coast and marine wildlife as a round up to our novel study of Blueback.
We’ve also been busy researching Victorian bushrangers and rounding up our unit on the Victorian Gold Rush in preparation for our camp at the start of next term. There has been lots of fun and learning to be had.
