Scripture (NRSV):
No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Summary
Jesus tells us that He came down from heaven to bring us life with God. Just as Moses lifted up the bronze serpent so people could be healed, Jesus will be lifted up on the cross so that everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life. God loves the whole world so much that He gave His only Son to save us. Jesus was not sent to judge or condemn us, but to bring love, healing, and hope.
Reflection Questions
Dear God,
Thank you for the incredible love you have shown us by sending Jesus. Help me to understand more deeply what it means to believe in Him — not just in words but with my heart.
Forgive me for times when I’ve doubted or turned away. Thank you that you don’t send Jesus to judge me, but to save me, to bring hope and eternal life.
Give me courage to share this love with others, to live in faith, and to trust you daily. May I always remember that belief in Jesus shapes not only what I think, but how I live.
Amen.
