The Magic of the Matilda Jr. Performances

What an incredible week it was! After months of rehearsals, Matilda Jr. filled the theatre with energy, laughter and joy across two full houses each night. The atmosphere was electric as our students took to the stage with confidence and creativity, and the response from the audience was nothing short of overwhelming. From the big musical numbers to the quiet moments of storytelling, every performance was a celebration of talent, teamwork and the power of the performing arts. Thank you to the whole WPPS community for supporting our performances!

We are so proud of our students and the enormous team that brought Matilda Jr. to life. With nearly 300students involved, this was a production that truly reflected the spirit of our school community. Each child contributed something special, whether it was the energy and joy on stage or the quiet focus and technical precision behind the scenes.

Our performers lit up the stage with confidence, humour and heart. Whether stepping out for their very first time in front of an audience or carrying lead roles with lines and solos, every student worked hard to bring the story to life. Their singing, dancing, and acting showed not only growing skill, but also courage, creativity and collaboration. Watching them grow over the rehearsal process, encouraging one another and building belief in themselves, has been one of the great highlights of this production.

Behind the curtain, the stage and tech crews were student-led with the support of just a few staff members. They worked with maturity and professionalism well beyond their years. From moving sets and organising props to running sound and technical elements, they took full ownership of their responsibilities. It was powerful to see students leading every aspect of this work, embracing the chance to be part of the big team, and recognising how vital their contribution was in making the story flow.

Alongside our students, an army ofparent helpers (who were listed in the program) gave their time and talents to the production. From sewing and sourcing costumes to painting sets, moving props, helping backstage and lending a hand whenever needed, your generosity and teamwork made such a difference. Thank you for stepping up and supporting not only your own children, but the whole production.

I also want to sincerely thank all the WPPS staff who guided, supported, and encouraged students throughout the entire process. From rehearsing with classes and giving up their time for the performances, to assisting backstage and keeping everything running smoothly, their commitment ensured that students had the chance to shine. I'm so grateful for the dedication and care of every staff member who helped make the show a success.

Matilda Jr. was about more than putting on a show. It was about students discovering their strengths, stepping into new roles with courage and learning what it means to be part of a team. It was about students, families and staff working side by side to create memories that students will carry with them long after the final curtain. And most of all, it was about joy- the joy and magic of working together, of telling a story and of creating something that was bigger than any one of us.

Thank you for celebrating the joy, brilliance and courage of our students on stage. Their performances were a reminder of what young people can achieve when given the chance to shine, and it was a privilege to share these unforgettable moments with our community.

With heartfelt thanks for all your support of this production and your children in it.

We were fortunate to have a parent, Bec Matheson, capture professional photographs during the dress rehearsal and backstage each performance night. The photos are stunning and truly showcase the magic of the production. A link to the gallery will be shared in the coming days via email, so please keep an eye out. Thank you Bec for these memories!
