Congratulations – District Athletics

A huge congratulations to all the students who proudly represented our school at the District Athletics Carnival. Despite the challenging weather conditions of wind and rain, our students showed fantastic determination, resilience, and team spirit throughout the day.

We are so proud of the way you competed, encouraged one another, and demonstrated great sportsmanship. Thank you for giving your best efforts and for representing our school with such pride.

A special congratulations goes to:

  • Maddie (Year 6) – 2nd place in the 80m hurdles
  • Victoria (Year 5) – 1st place in the 1500m
  • Emmy (Year 5) – 1st place in discus
  • Charlyze (Year 4) – 1st place in shot put

These students have now qualified to represent our school at the Division Athletics Carnival early in Term 4. We wish them the very best as they move on to the next stage!

Well done, everyone! 🌟

In the PE Classroom This Week…

Prep

This week in Physical Education, Prep students will continue to practice their catching skills. They will focus on using two hands to catch, keeping their eyes on the ball, and moving into position to make the catch successfully.

Students will practice with a variety of equipment, beginning with larger, soft balls to build confidence before progressing to smaller objects for an extra challenge. Partner activities and small group games will encourage them to take turns, share, and support each other while practicing.

Year 1 & 2

This week in Physical Education, Year 1 and 2 students will continue to focus on developing their catching skills. The lesson will include activities that encourage students to:

  • Use two hands to catch safely and consistently
  • Keep their eyes on the ball
  • Move into the right position to successfully receive a pass

Students will practice with partners and in small groups, using different types of balls to challenge their accuracy and coordination. They will also participate in fun catching games that highlight the importance of cooperation, encouragement, and fair play.

Year 3-6

This week in Physical Education, Year 3–6 students will take part in the Beep Test (multi-stage fitness test). Earlier in the year, students completed this assessment, and this session will give them the opportunity to see if they can improve their endurance and aerobic fitness.

The Beep Test challenges students to run back and forth between two points in time with a series of beeps, which gradually become faster. It encourages not only physical effort but also resilience and persistence as the test progresses.

Alongside recording their results, students will be encouraged to reflect on their effort, set personal goals, and recognise the importance of regular activity for improving fitness.

By the end of the lesson, students should gain a sense of achievement from their progress, while also building an understanding of how practice, persistence, and effort contribute to fitness improvement.

Performing Arts

Prep, Grade 3–6

Students will reflect on their rehearsals and performances of Matilda. They will enjoy looking back at photos from the production and completing a reflection task, which will be displayed in the Performing Arts room.

Grade 1 and 2

Students will use their bodies to create sculptures of a variety of characters. They will explore finding a voice for these characters and a way to move. Students will also begin unpacking a picture story through drama, exploring its characters and themes.

Visual Arts

Prep

Students will begin a sculpture artwork using timber, wire, plasticine and beads. They will decorate their timber base and begin to mould plasticine into various shapes to thread onto a skewer.

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be finishing off their paper plate loom as well as adding the final colours to their protea painting.

Grade 3/4

Student will be creating a ceramic chicken to link in with their work in SAKG. They will focus on the ‘slip and score’ joining of clay.

Grade 5

Students will continue creating their reptile using the felting technique, focussing on blending colours and adding in background.

Grade 6

Students will be finishing their 3D names on their street art fence. They also be adding their fence to a structure to hold it upright.

STEM

Grade 1 & 2:

Students will interact with a range of simple toys to explore how the forces of push an pull can start, stop or change the direction of an object. They will then build a simple toy of their own to demonstrate pushing and pulling.

Grade 3 & 4:

Students will investigate the force of air resistance through a range of hands on investigations. They will then build simple paper helicopters and parachutes to demonstrate this force.

Grade 5 & 6:

Students have been learning about simple electric circuits. This week, they will be building real circuits with light globes, motors and switches.
