Family and Faith Matters

What's happening in our Classrooms?
As part of the new Religious Education Curriculum Stage 3 have been exploring a lovely unit based around Mary.
Mary as a faithful disciple and model for the Church. The Students have been exploring female saints and women within Scripture who lived lives of faith, courage, and trust in God. They are learning to recognise how the Church honours Mary for her role in our salvation by exploring significant Marian feast days. Our unit explores expressions of Mary as the model of faithful discipleship through art and music.
Below are some symbols the Stage 3 students created based on Mary's values. The symbols are designed to connect their understanding of Mary and her intrinsic belief that God is good.

Why Teach About Mary in a Catholic Primary School?
Teaching about Mary, the Mother of God, is a vital part of faith formation in Catholic education.
- Mary's life and example help children understand the values of love, obedience, and trust in God.
- Mary as a Model of Faith
- Mary's 'yes' to God at the Annunciation shows children how to trust in God's plan.
- Her humility and courage serve as a role model for students as they grow in their own spiritual journey.
- Deepening Understanding of Jesus
- As the Mother of Jesus, Mary helps children understand Jesus' humanity and divinity.
- Her role in salvation history is central to Catholic belief and helps students connect more deeply with their faith.
- Encouraging Prayer and Devotion Students learn traditional prayers such as the Hail Mary and the Rosary.
- Her example teaches children to be kind, gentle, and caring toward others. Connecting to Catholic Identity
- Teaching about Mary helps students feel part of a global Catholic community.
- Learning about Mary supports Religious Education outcomes, including understanding Scripture, Church teachings, and the lives of saints. It also encourages students to think imaginatively, creatively, and interpretively about faith.

Gratitude
Thank you to those beautiful families who got up early and came in to help make sandwiches for the homeless this morning. It is a tangible way you as families can make a difference to help those in need in our city. Many are going without food in suburbs very close to us. Vinnies Kitchen in Ryde were most grateful. The next session will be in Term 4 on 12 December.
