1st  September  2025    Bentley

This week’s Superhero is being recognised for his respect and persistence. Always arriving at school with a smile, Bentley brings a focused and enthusiastic approach to learning.

Bentley's persistence is incredible; he always gives things a go, no matter how challenging the task. Over the year, his growth mindset has flourished as he embraced new challenges and sought to improve in all areas of learning. Moving into the new year, this Year 6 student has continued to grow, pushing himself even further.

What truly sets Bentley apart is his resilience. He approaches challenges with determination, never hesitating to try something different. Even when he isn’t successful on the first attempt, he handles setbacks, using them as opportunities to grow. Rather than giving up, he reflects, adjusts, and tries again, demonstrating a fantastic growth mindset in all he does.

Beyond the classroom, Bentley also contributes to our school community by helping in the canteen and assisting with Honey, showing initiative and responsibility in every role he takes on.

This Studio 12 student has entered 2025 with a can-do attitude. Always well-spoken and polite, with a hint of cheekiness at times, Bentley consistently shows good manners. A quiet achiever, he should be proud of the way he has conducted himself while working with both peers and teachers.

Congratulations Bentley, we hope you've had a great week.

8th September  2025    Van

This week’s Superhero is being recognised for the values of care, persistence, and respect in everything they do. Van is the kind of student who makes a difference not only through his own achievements, but also through the way he treats others each and every day.

Our Superhero shows care in the way he interacts with everyone he meets. He is kind, thoughtful, and always willing to lend a hand to classmates and teachers alike. Van goes out of his way to include others, making sure that no one is left out, whether in the classroom, the playground, or on the sporting field. Van 's genuine consideration for others makes him a wonderful teammate and friend, and he models empathy even when he thinks no one is watching.

When it comes to persistence, this Grade 4 student can quietly go under the radar, but his teachers often notice the way he approaches challenges with determination, showing resilience when things don’t come easily. Instead of giving up, Van asks for feedback and tries new strategies until he finds a solution. His love of problem-solving shines through in his learning, where he is always prepared to think deeply, collaborate with others, and tackle difficult tasks with a positive mindset. Van 's teacher loves the way he has a little chuckle when he makes a mistake and just says ‘oh, oops’ before he gives it another go.

This member of Studio 8 also demonstrates respect in the way he speaks and acts towards others. He listens carefully, values different opinions, and treats everyone with fairness. Van's respectful attitude helps create a positive learning environment where everyone feels safe and valued, and his classma

tes always feel very comfortable around him.

For Van's kindness, determination, and respect, Studio 8 will be happy to know that this previously unsung hero will be graduating to a fully-fledged Superhero.

Congratulations Van, we hope you've had a great week.

Mindfulness in Action – Building Resilience in Grade ¾

Over the past two weeks, the Grade 3/4 students have been engaging in daily mindfulness strategies, with a special focus on activities leading up to Mindfulness Day on September 12th. Students have explored a range of practices including gratitude journaling, meditation, mindful colouring, and the art of “savouring” – learning to be fully present in the moment. These activities are designed to help students build resilience, improve focus, and develop positive coping strategies they can use both in and out of the classroom.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY

A big congratulations to Abbie M who competed in the State Cross Country Championships at the Yarra Valley Racing Club earlier in the term. Abbie qualified through impressive runs at Hanging Rock (District), Castlemaine (Division) and St Arnaud (Regional) placing her in the top 100 runners for her age group in the state. Well done Abbie.

CDSSA BASKETBALL

On Tuesday 5th August our senior boys and girls teams competed in the CDSSA District Basketball Championships in Sunbury. Both teams played some outstanding basketball with the boys team finishing the day winning five out of nine games. Our girls team went undefeated winning all nine of their games. The girls were dominant conceding only 6 points across the whole day while scoring 117 points. The girls have qualified for the Division Championships in Castlemaine early next term. Congratulations and good luck.

NFL FLAG STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

During Term Two, students in years 3 to 6 explored the basic skills of NFL Flag. NFL Flag is a modified, non-contact version of American Football with 5 players a side and both boys and girls playing together. Players wear belts with flags to be pulled instead of tackling. NFL Flag will be a part of the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

A squad of year 5 and 6’s was selected to delve further and explore the tactical side of the game in preparation to compete in the NFL Flag Victorian State Championships. The carrot, the winner of each State Championships goes on to compete in the National Championships on the Gold Coast (all expenses paid!). The winner of those National Championships then becomes Team Australia at the NFL Flag International Championships in the USA in 2026 (all expenses paid!). Incredible!

On the 8th August our team headed to Melbourne to compete for the State Championship. While we competed hard in all our games the State title was not to be. Unluckily drawing 3 of the top 4 teams in our pool games we finished the day with 2 wins and 3 losses to place 10th in the State. A fantastic effort in just our second year of learning this new sport

Victorian Primary Schools Orienteering Championships

Congratulations to Saoirse P who recently participated in the Victorian Primary Schools Orienteering Championships West at Hanging Rock. Saoirse completed the course of 20 checkpoints (controls) in a time of 20:17 to place 1st in her age group. Well done Saoirse!

CDSSA ATHLETICS DAY

On Friday 15th August our 2025 athletics team travelled to Bendigo to compete against other schools in our Goldfields District. Our 34 students from years 3 to 6 competed in 60 events across the day. Remarkably they placed in 35 of these 60 events. Special mentions to our record nine winners – Billy DS in the 9/10 boys 100m, Arlo GH in the 9/10 boys long jump, Jude T in the 9/10 boys shot put, Aiden S in the 9/10 boys triple jump, Elijah H in the 9/10 boys 1500m, Huntyr M in the 11 boys shot put, Finnian B in the 11 boys discus, Felix B in the 12/13 boys long jump and Ruby O in the 12/13 girls triple jump. All students gave it their all and should be proud of their efforts. Good luck to the eight students who will be progressing to the Division Championships in Bendigo on Monday 15th September.

KPS in the Grand Parade – Join Us!

This year, the KPS Parents & Friends are excited to be coordinating our school’s entry in the Grand Parade. We’re seeking families from across all year levels to walk in the parade. Children must to be supervised while attending. It’s a great way to be part of the KPS community – and maybe even make some new friends! Staff are also encouraged to join.

📍 Meeting Point: Kyneton Showgrounds – We will have a School Banner to walk behind

🕦 Time: Meet from 11.30am – Parade begins at 12.30pm

The parade theme is “Fields of Gold”, so we’d love to see as many KPS students as possible dressed in yellow, gold, or something bright. Please email Sarah Lockhart – kpspnf@gmail.com if you are interested in joining in the walk

Carpark Safety

We would like to address some important safety concerns regarding carpark use, and we kindly ask for your cooperation.

Kindergarten Carpark

We have been made aware that some families are using the kindergarten carpark who are not attending the kindergarten. This carpark is reserved exclusively for kindergarten families. If you have both kindergarten and school-aged children and need to park there, please ensure you use the ramp to access the school grounds.

The increased traffic in this area is making it difficult for kindergarten families to find parking and is also creating a safety risk due to the higher volume of foot traffic. Please also note that the gate between the kindergarten and school is now locked — children should not be lifted over the gate under any circumstances.

School Carpark

The school carpark has vehicles moving in and out throughout the day. For safety reasons, we ask that pedestrians do not use the stairs near the flag poles and then walk through the carpark as a shortcut. The designated ramp or steps are to be used when entering or exiting the school.

Thank you for your support in helping keep all members of our school and kindergarten community safe.
