Devotion

Last week, many of us sat down for Parent Teacher Learning Conversations. These conversations are a wonderful chance to pause, reflect, and celebrate how far our children have come over the last two terms.

In the busyness of everyday learning, growth can be easy to miss. We notice the routines, the feelings, the daily challenges, and sometimes wonder if much has really changed. But when we step back, the progress is unmistakable. Their confidence has grown, friendships have deepened, and skills that once seemed difficult are now becoming second nature.

It reminds me of the changing of the seasons. Through winter, the trees in our neighbourhood looked cold and bare. Then, almost overnight, the blossoms have appeared, our fig tree has begun to bud, and the patch of grass out the front that'd struggled through those many rainless months has suddenly shot up green and full again. We don’t always see the little shifts as they happen, but together they bring about a beautiful transformation.

Faith is much the same. Sometimes it’s hard to notice what God is doing in us day by day. We might feel the same, unaware of the Spirit’s quiet work beneath the surface. Yet, like a seed in the soil, God is always growing us. He is helping strengthen our roots, shaping our character, and preparing us to bloom in His time.

As we reflect on our children and all they have achieved, may we also give thanks for the ways God is at work in our own lives. Even if we don’t notice the changes in the moment, His good work is always unfolding.

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6

Prayer:

Loving God, thank You for the gift of growth—in our children, in creation, and in our own lives. Help us to notice the beauty of change, and to trust that You are always at work, even when we can’t see it yet. Continue Your good work in us and through us. Amen.
