Year 12 English

As part of our Year 12 English curriculum, we have been exploring the theme of storytelling through the lens of singer-songwriter Paul Kelly. Students analysed how personal experience, culture, and identity inform creative expression in different text types, with a focus on the role of the storyteller in the medium of song. 

The unit culminated in a special guest visit from local singer-songwriter Ray Jones, who shared insights into his personal journey in the music industry, as well as his songwriting process, and performed original works, including some from his upcoming album, Northern Stars. 

This real-world engagement deepened students’ understanding of voice, perspective, and the power of narrative in contemporary Australian music, whilst enabling them to connect with a musician from our local community.
