Sean Choolburra visit - and next years performer!
We have 25 students receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this year, our largest number for quite a few years. As they begin to learn about the final initiation sacrament, we ask you to keep them in your prayers as they journey toward the Sacrament on Sunday 9th November. The year six faith night will be held on Wednesday 8th October at 6:30pm.
It is a lovely opportunity to learn together in a fun and relaxed environment.
On the morning of Monday 8th September all students were entertained as they learned the stories (and antics) of Sean. There was music, dance moves and even a crocodile hiding under a chair! Sean was a bundle of fun and kept the audience engaged with his story telling and movement. We have been fortunate enough to book Majeda Beatty for Reconciliation week next year. She will take our students through a journey of Australia's First Nation dreamtime in an interactive and vibrant presentation from an indigenous millennials perspective. We look forward to welcoming her next year.
Here's what some our students had to say about the morning!
"I got to learn a dance with Sean about the powerlines collapsing. I had to lie on the ground and pretend that I was the powerline. I then had to stand and stomp to the beat. I enjoyed when Sean talked about the water resources and that Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) drank out of the new toilet! Sean told us about when he picked mangoes and getting the call to be Maynard from Bluey. I would be so happy if he came back to St John's." - Oscar W
"I loved the energy that Sean brought to St John's. He asked a few of us (the chosen ones) to do some break dancing and he competed with Lawrence. It was a close result but I feel the atmosphere of the gym meant that Lawrence was victorious on the very very exciting Monday" - Roman
"He was very funny, energetic and eccentric. He had many different ways of presenting information and was hugely creative in his story telling. I liked seeing him dancing as it was very expressive of himself. My favourite part of the performance was when he spoke about when he was picking mangoes and somehow got chosen to become the voice of Maynard in Bluey. I learned that he was in a band and he won a disco competition when he was younger - that's why he challenged some St John's students to dance off! Lawrence won but I think it was very close!" - Kent
