Grade 5/6

What an action-packed last two weeks it has been in Grade 5/6! Students eagerly participated in swimming, and are to be congratulated on their efforts and persistence! We have also busily continued on with reading our whole class text, 'Rivet Boy' in English and writing our persuasive text on child labour. Not only are students becoming more confident employing techniques within their writing to persuade the audience, but we are learning about the rights of the child and effects of child labour on the mental, physical and social wellbeing of children around the world. Congratulations to the Grade 5/6s for taking on such a serious topic with inquisitive minds and empathy.
Within Mathematics, students have continued to wow me with their fractions and decimals knowledge! Grade 5/6s have grown in confidence adding and subtracting fractions with related denominators, and determining equivalent fractions. Please encourage your child to showcase their knowledge through their weekly homework tasks, which reviews the previous week's mathematics content.
Within Science, we have started a new unit on electricity, with students loving creating circuits via an online program. History has continued to see us delve deeper into the Eureka Stockade, with our Sovereign Hill camp allowing us to form strong connections to the content covered in class.
Lastly, we have really been unpacking the term 'empathy' in class, and I strongly encourage you to support this by asking your child how they displayed empathy today. The clever Grade 5/6 students are incredibly strong at identifying how this can be demonstrated both in and outside of school.
I cannot wait to see you all at Parent/Teacher Interviews, where students can proudly show off their work! Please contact the office if you require support booking an appointment in!
