Grade 4/5

Year 4/5 News

What a busy and action-packed fortnight it has been!

Our Year 4/5 students have had an exciting few weeks filled with learning, creativity, and new experiences.

The students participated in swimming lessons at HILAC and impressed us all with how well they demonstrated our school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience. Swimming teachers commented on their fantastic behaviour, and it was wonderful to see their confidence and skills improve each day.

In Literacy, students have been working on persuasive writing pieces using laptops. This not only developed their writing skills but also prepared them for NAPLAN by practising typing. Topics ranged from banning animal testing to introducing three-day weekends, as well as fun letters addressed to Mrs Richardson proposing a canteen and even a school pet at George Street Primary School.  😊

In Numeracy, students have been applying their times tables knowledge to solve multiplication algorithms. They also explored location and mapping skills by using terms such as horizontal and vertical, grid references, and compass points.

Our Science lessons had a real spark of excitement! Students explored the power of static electricity using jelly crystals. Watching the crystals move was both fun and fascinating — a real highlight of the week!

In Wellbeing, we focused on our school values. Students worked in pairs or small groups to create a play, song, or poster showing what respectful and disrespectful behaviour looks like. Most students chose to perform plays, and we all thoroughly enjoyed watching their creative performances.
