The Importance of Reading with Your Child

Reading with your child, especially in Kindergarten through Year 2, is essential for their academic success. Listening to your child read helps develop their vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence. Early reading support is critical because research shows that ‘fewer than 1 in 5 students who fall behind in reading by Year 3 catch up and stay caught up’.

Building strong reading skills early also fosters a love of learning and improves overall school performance. Consistent reading at home creates a strong foundation that benefits your child throughout their education and beyond.

Teachers at St Xavier’s work really hard to encourage reading at home and for students to exchange their readers regularly.
