Sustainability News

As we wrap up another exciting term, we reflect on all the wonderful things we've accomplished in the Gardening Club and in gardening sessions. What a fantastic few months it’s been, especially as we watched our garden transform with the change in weather.

The cooler Autumn and Winter weather has been a welcome relief for our crops, and they’re absolutely thriving in this new season. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been busy planting a variety of vegetables and herbs that will see us through the colder months. From beans and eggplant to lettuce, spinach, and silver beet, we’ve carefully chosen plants that will flourish in the coming season. And let’s not forget the snow peas and cabbages that are already showing promising signs of growth!

Our herb garden is also looking fantastic with freshly planted basil, dil and rosemary, which is already adding some green vibrancy to our beds. It’s been wonderful to see the students get so hands-on with planting, learning how to nurture each seedling and observe the growth cycle.

In addition to our edible plants, we’ve brightened up the school grounds with some beautiful new bedding flowers, including fuchsia, dahlias, and pansies. These vibrant blooms will not only add a splash of color to our school but will also attract beneficial insects, helping to further support our ecosystem.

As this is my (Mrs. Doran) final Gardening Club and Environment session before going on maternity leave, I would like to say a massive thank you to our amazing students that have helped out in the garden, with recycling initiatives and with making the school a greener and cleaner place. You are making such a difference in our community and should be very proud of how you make the world a better place!

Wishing everyone a wonderful break, and we can’t wait to continue growing and learning together next term. Keep an eye on the garden after the holidays – who knows what will be blooming by the time we return! 🌱🌸🍅
