Message from the College Principal

G’day everyone,

It's hard to believe that we are approaching the end of term already!  The first term has skipped by and has been a busy and productive term at Kurnai College. Numbers are up and the college is at least 100 students bigger than this time last year! The weather has remained warm and this made our College Athletics day one of the best ever. The student participation rate was excellent and such a positive vibe was enjoyed by us all. Speaking of big numbers, our Cadet program, Squadron 424, has over 60 students enrolled in it and is always open to taking on new recruits. The cadet program offers young people some great adventures, experiences and challenges. They learn discipline, teamwork and respect. Many of our cadets have gone on to excellent careers in the armed services, and generally, the cadet experience is a positive one for those who join up! Something to consider.

Wishing everyone a great Easter break, and we will see you all back here in term 2 !!

Athletics Day

The last day of summer, Tuesday 28th February provided a perfect warm day to host  Kurnai College’s Inter House Athletics Carnival at Joe Carmody Reserve in Newborough on.

Students from across the College came together and participated in various track and field events, novelty events such as limbo, longest footy kick, or the balloon toss, or simply spent a relaxing day catching up with their friends.

Siddle prevailed and took out the Kurnai College House Athletics Championship Cup winning by a margin of 52 points ahead of runners up Freeman.

It was fantastic to see the students competing, striving to do their best for their house, and getting into the spirit of the day by getting involved and dressing up in their house colours.

Congratulations to all our competitors and we wish our top performers all the very best in their efforts for the Wellington Athletics Carnival that will be held next term.

A huge thank you to all the staff and students from Kurnai College for their efforts and to the Health and Physical Education staff for their professional running of the day.

Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition

On Saturday the 22nd of March, students from all three campuses of Kurnai College came together to perform at the Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition in Yinnar. This event celebrates artistic creativity and promotes inclusivity within the Gippsland region. It was a wonderful opportunity to be part of such a meaningful community event.

Our students presented a broad range of music, highlighting their talents across different styles and genres. The performance included Yothu Yindi’s ‘Treaty,’ The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie,’ iconic tunes from the Blues Brothers, and the popular ‘Dance Monkey’ by Tones & I.

One of the event's highlights was the students' performance of the theme song from the TV show ‘Bluey,’ where they created their own unique arrangement specifically for the occasion. This special touch was a favourite among the younger audience members.

As always, our students proudly represented Kurnai College and its values. Many attendees, including parents and community members, praised the exceptional musical talent on display and noted the remarkable musical growth of the band.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all the students, parents, staff and community members for their support on the day. We can’t wait to see you at our next performance!

Learn an Instrument

Kurnai College offers students across its three campuses the opportunity to be part of a vibrant and engaging music program.

The program caters for students with mixed abilities and interests, whilst providing numerous learning and performance opportunities.

Specialist instrumental tuition is available for a variety of instruments including woodwind, brass, percussion and stringed instruments.

Learning a musical instrument can help develop a variety of skills, from improving concentration and memory to boosting creativity and self-discipline. Plus, it's a great way to make new friends and express yourself in ways words cannot.

If you’re interested in starting your musical journey or advancing your skills, please see your music teacher or contact the general office
